I'm an Atheist and I find that a lot of other Atheists can be just as closed minded as religious fanatics. I agree with the Theists (up to a point) that just because you can't see it, it doesn't mean it isn't true. I try my best to keep an open minded perspective on all issues. I'm not great at it, but I do try.
So, just for a bit of self-analysis, how would you rate yourself on a 1-10 on being open minded?
1 being set in stone. 10 being open to all ideas. 10 doesn't mean that you'll believe what they say, but just hear it out indifferently.

I would say a 7 or an 8 depending on how I feel.

I hope I'm open enough to admit new evidence and data rather than rule it out.
But the situation isn't so poised that one opinion or idea is at all likely to to tip the scales. Not when considered against what I've already evaluated. That doesn't mean I've ignored that essay, opinon, website...
I'll have to go for 8: not quite "hear it out indifferently." but "listen, with a sceptical ear".
I'm not going to put that much time or effort into considering a proposal for a perpetual motion machine, for example.

I'm an atheist who believes in souls, angels (guardians, not the Biblical sort), an afterlife, ghosts, spirits, the power of prayer as a way to boost positive thinking, and other aspects of the mystical and supernatural. All that makes me an atheist is my total disbelief in the existence of a god or gods.
I can't go with a 10 for that reason, but I'd definitely say I'm a 9.

I am not so much a fanatic about not believing that a god does not exist. I do think something did get the ball rolling only much differently than most people. What I have a problem with is the fantasies they shove down out throats and expect everyone to live their lives according to those fantasies. I have to defend my right to live my life according to my standards not those of fundies controlling politics. It is becomeing too much like a Muslim country where the religion controls your everyday life.

I am open minded just not to religion.
I believe in ghosts mainly cause I have seen them and have talked to them.
And no I am not crazy or on drugs.
I'm a 10 on being open minded but 1 on religion, and I can say this as I used to be religious.

I'm open to all logical ideas. I'm not open to every half-baked false analogy that some fundamentalist heard at church and is trying to pass off as a definitive proof for his or her religion. And I express no doubt as to the nonexistence of gods. But there's a huge difference between open-mindedness and indecisiveness. If someone has any actual evidence for any god, I'd be more than happy to look at it.

Not so open minded that my brain falls out.
I also cleave to a few absolute principles:
1. Do unto others as you would have done to you.
2. Be suspicious of people who claim to Know The Answer (when I don't even ask the question).

I try to be open-minded, but that doesn't mean I'll agree to everything. If I do not agree with something, I will try my best to opinions to myself, especially if they would hurt someone. So I would give myself about 8 times out of 10 for open-mindedness.

Oh expensive yet yet another undesirable christian attempting to curve the certainty!! You do what you like athesits to do then!! look at why you're a christian and why you basically won't be able to view issues with an open ideas!! popularity of a supernatural declare has a tendency to sell cooperative social relationships. This verbal substitute demonstrates a willingness to settle for, without scepticism, the effect of the speaker in a fashion akin to a toddler's popularity of the effect of a parent. by using encouraging one in each of those habit the place the main extreme social relationships happen it helps the shortcoming of skeptcism and deters extra open minded questioning. they're christian via fact they have been indoctrinated by using their mum and dad as very youthful infants. they're going to circulate directly to indoctrinate their own infants and those will circulate directly to indoctrinate their grandchildren!! Your ideas is firmly closed and thanks to this you rail against every physique who thinks in yet in a various thank you to your self!! no longer something is worse than energetic lack of expertise. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe at an analogous time as athesits can debate with an open ideas!! it incredibly is the mark of an knowledgeable ideas to be waiting to entertain a concept without accepting it. Aristotle possibly you ought to evaluate a extra sensible mindset! cope with a guy as he seems to be, and you're making him worse. yet cope with a guy as though he have been what he doubtlessly must be, and you're making him what he must be.
