I don't see why so many people (catholics) question atheism. Would they rather not believe in God and Satan? As someone who is NOT a catholic, I don't see how anyone can think that being an atheist or agnostic is worse than being a catholic. Do they not know there is no heaven for them to go to? I am just wondering where their minds are at...I don't want to say anything that might offend those with their narrow-minded religious beliefs or anything of that matter!

I do not want to argue or to insult anyone. You are nicer than most people in this category, so I just present my knowledge. I question the Bible, because I saw errors in it when I was age 7. I am a Thinking-oriented man in Dr. Carl Gustav Jung's system, so I question everything. As an atheist, I accept no gods, whether it be God (Yahweh), the Satan (a copy of Zoroaster's Ahriman), Brahma, Yu Ti, the Flying Spaghetti Monster or any other. I believe nothing, for a belief is an idea accepted without proof. I look at all of the evidence before I form a firm opinion. There is no Heaven or Hell. The ones portrayed are not desirable. Mark Twain, Isaac Asimov and I are among the men who would not want to go to the boring and depressing Christian Heaven, and you would not either, if you were really there. The Moslem Heaaven is better than the one for Christians, but Buddhism and Hinduism have better ideas yet. I studied all major religions. Mom's fateher was a pastor, so I was taught to be a christian, but I began to doubt it at age 7 or so. I was an atheist by age 12 and maybe earlier.

There may be as many reasons as there are atheists. I think the primary reason is that the world is pretty much a sewer these days, and it's getting worse. They look at that and hold God responsible. Yes, I know that makes no sense, because they don't believe in God. It's true just the same.
Another big issue is control over one's life. Many people will not cede control (or face the fact that they have none). There are probably a multitude of reasons for this reaction, too.

Someone would only care about not going to heaven if they had been convinced that heaven exists. Honestly, the way some people fail to understand a concept as incredibly simple as atheism is just incredible. It's absolutely terrifying that you have been so thoroughly indoctrinated that the very idea of not believing in God, Satan or Heaven is just incomprehensible to you.
See? "someone told me that atheists believe in satan". Does it not worry you that people are telling you these lies and that you're unquestioningly believing them? Doesn't it make you wonder what else people may have lied to you about that you've just taken as truth?

If god, heaven, and h·ll exist then I will go to one whether I believe in it or not. If god is going to send me to h·ll because I don´t believe in the fantasies around today then I do not want to be in a heaven made by some one that petulant. Also, I was catholic and a good little alterboy for many years. I started asking questions that the priests did not want to answer. It wasn´t that they couldn´t they wouldn´t. I discovered those answers on my own and found out why they did not want to answer them.

OK. For the millionth time. Atheists don't believe in any of the following:
God
Satan
Heaven
Hell
They don't believe they exist, period. There is no God to question because God doesn't exist. There is no Satan so they can't choose to follow him.
I don't know what you've been told about atheists but judging by your additional comments, you need a new source of information.

Firstly, atheists DO NOT believe in Satan. That is the mindset of believers in the Biblical Deity.
We don't think be any religion is "worse" than being an atheist. Be whatever you chose to be, we believe in the Constitution's guarantee of freedom of, and from, religion. And we expect you to give us that same freedom
we don't care that we won't be going to Heaven because we do not believe in heaven or in hell.

Some people argue that since the world is such a mess, there could not be a God who cares, which (to them) is no different than no God at all.
Lot of things in this world of HiTech gadgets made us see and hear the wars, the sufferings of innocent children, the cries of the mothers for their daughters, sons, husband and
relatives, their homes destroyed and they themselves left
on the streets with the smell of gun powder and smoke and
their surroundings full of body part of their children and loved ones.
They too prayed, and prayed and prayed and found there is
no answer from God and they start wondering and try to find some answers such as: why God allows Young girls to be raped and killed ? Why their children were snatched from mothers arms and shot right in front of her while she looked skywards asking God to come to her rescue because her world is being destroyed by the same creatures created by the same God and why does he allow all the sufferings ?

Atheists aren't questioning God. They don't believe God exists. Or Satan. Or Heaven.
I honestly don't know how to make it any clearer than that. And no, I'm not worked up, just puzzled that such a simple position could be so difficult to grasp.
[Edit] " Why do you believe there is no god?"
Different atheists have different answers.
Some atheists think that the lack of evidence for God should be treated the same way as the lack of evidence for unicorns, for Zeus, or for goblins. In other words, the default position for any proposed entity is non existence, in the absence of evidence of existence.
"Hard agnostics" consider the question of whether God exists or not is unanswerable.
Others resent the way ideas of God have been used to manipulate, exploit and harm people.
Myself, I have sympathy for all three positions. You need to decide for yourself.

Charming one, an atheist does not 'question god' or 'think that being a...Christian is worse than being an atheist.' It's really a simple matter: an atheist cannot question things--gods, heaven, etc.--which he or she does not believe exist. As to the other, let's leave that to the Fundies, whose skills in this regard are immense.
