The gluten free diet is ONLY meant for those with gluten intolerance, allergies, Celiac Disease or other conditions that might warrant a gluten free diet, such as autism. For the general public, there is no need to go gluten free. If u do NOT have the above conditions, and are benefiting from the GF diet, it is because u have removed the processed crap from your diet and are being forced to try new things. There are downfalls to the GF diet such as lack of fiber, certain nutrients and less variety of foods. It is NOT recommended anyone do the GF diet unless they have a medical need to do so. PPl doing it just ot lose weight and to 'try it' are making it more difficutl for ppl like me to be taken seriously bc I HAVE to eat GF or will get very ill.
If u feel u have a condition that requires the GF diet, these links should help.

It can help with almost any symptom you can name, but only if you're part of the small percentage that has an auto-immune reaction to it.
What that percentage is always seems to change as the testing methods are updated, however.
I've seen articles from the 1960s and 70s saying it affects 1 out of 10,000 people, articles from the 80s saying 1 in 1,000 - but most of the recent ones are estimating 1 in 100. Dr. Fine at Enterolabs came up with a new test in the last few years and its showing results more like 1 in 10. There are other foods like milk, corn, and soy in particular, that can cause similar auto-immune problems in people.
When all the numbers start stacking, I think its a really good idea for people with chronic health problems to try an elimination diet. You can find all the info online for free and you can get the whole foods from your grocery store instead of the processed junk. The only downside is the time you put into research and cooking - otherwise there's no side-effects, complications, or health risks in trying a new diet so long as you eat enough well-balanced calories.

For those who are sensitive to gluten, a gluten free diet can make the difference between a happy, normal life and one which is regularly blighted by horrible symptoms.
Yes, headaches can be one symptom caused by eating gluten, but only in someone who is gluten intolerant.
The list of possible ill effects is so long, I don't want to go into it here, but if you visit my quiz, Are You Gluten Intolerant? at http://www.glutenfreedietbook.com/factsheet and read the
5 multiple choice questions, this will give you some idea.

Nope it only has positive health effects on those with either gluten enteropathy or gluten allergy. To everyone else gluten is quite harmless and produces no symptoms.
