They didn't just switch. They never did believe. Jesus told us that all who are given to Him would come to Him and those that come He would in no wise cast out. He said that the devil himself wouldn't be able to take them away from Him. No these that now hate God so deeply never had the spark of faith that has made you and I His children..... IHS Jim

Most people are brought up in one faith or another. They initially don't have a say in what to believe, they accept what their parents tell them to be true. They may go with the flow for a while before deciding that they really don't believe in God, they don't believe that they way they were told to view the world is the only way. If Mother Theresa can question the existence of God why is it so hard to imaging anyone having doubts. Some of those people with doubts become atheists.

I am not an Atheist or a Christian, and I most certainly DO NOT agree with you, that you have to believe in any particular thing to get into heaven. God is in no way petty, and to say that God requires us to believe in a particular thing to get into heaven, is an insult to God. The Christian CONCEPT, of God, is not very appealing one to many people, and I don't blame them one iota for rejecting it. I could not love or marry a human man who had the same Character traits that most Christians attribute to God. My concept of God, and the Universe, is new age, and very different from yours. If more people were aware of the New Age concept of God, there would still be Atheists, and that would be perfectly okay. But there would be far fewer of them. *sm*

People have been rejecting God since the very early beginning of man.
To acknowledge the existence of God means that we has humans will have to be held accountable for our thoughts, words and deeds. Lots of people reject authority of any kind, just look at all the unlawful behavior around us. Firing guns off on New Years Even Knowing That Bullet Could Come Down And Kill A Stranger, Breaking into strangers home, Robbing, murdering, hating, etc.
Should people accept the existence of God then they understand God is not pleased with us and if we aren't willing to change our ways then a heavy penalty will have to be paid.

I was a devout Christian (I would have put you all to shame) but I started to suffer from depression, which spiraled out of control and effectively ruined my life, as I was Christian I thought that this was Gods will and didn't want to change it because of fear of hell, after a failed suicide attempt they diagnosed me with depression and my Shrink told me that it was time for a change, so I researched other religions and so on and realized that their was no evidence for God except through faith (which isn't evidence) and so I converted to Atheism.

To Marco: What if your wrong and Your God doesn't exists but instead a completely different God exists who is even more sadistic? What would you do then?

How do you know it's true? Please tell me. As a woman especially, how can you believe there is a god? Being catholic, does it ever bother you that only men can preach? Does it bother you it took the Catholic church 2000 years to say Mary Magdelene was not a hooker? I could go on and on but this is just part of the reason.

Hi.Lets put the record straight. If you don't believe in God you can still get to Heaven. You have to do much more to offend God than not believing in him.God wants every person that he ever created to get to heaven but he doesn't force us that's why He gave us free will.We can either accept God or reject God.

Because there isn't a god.
MOST atheists were Christians at one time. Once you get past the indoctrinations you receive as a kid, you can look at it objectively. Then you realize that the Christians follow an evil god.

In my opinion it doesn't matter what faith you are/are not. To me how you live your everyday life is what matters the most. How you treat "your neighbour" and your example of goodness is what measures what and who you are.
I wish people like you wouldn't be so quick to identify their faith ... and then tack on at the end "I don't want to cause any ....... ". You know you are baiting a controversy.
..." and they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love, and they'll know we are Christians by our love..."

Sydney:
1. If they are right and there is no God, you became a better person in life, then you die and disappear. They disappear too.
2. If we are right and there is a God, we die and go to heaven eternally and they won´t.
Well, I could not agree more with you. There is no controversy, is as simple as eternal life or eternal fire.
