"If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is."

“If you tell lies about a product, you will be found out - either by the Government, which will prosecute you, or by the consumer, who will punish you by not buying your product a second time.” ~~David Ogilvy, Scottish born British military intelligence officer and later considered one of the world's foremost advertising executives, 1911-1999.

“Competition is not only the basis of protection to the consumer, but is the incentive to progress.” ~~Herbert Hoover, U.S. President, 1874-1964.

"The rule of thumb is that if it's too good to be true then it's probably a scam. You can't win a lottery you didn't enter. And banks don't ask for your pin number by phone or email. Be vigilant – don't do online banking at internet cafes." ~~New Zealand Consumer Affairs Minister Judith Tizard.

And to illustrate concretely why you also have to watch what government agencies say...

"I have been trying to get the New York Consumer Protection Board to stop misrepresenting government money programs," ~~Matthew Lesko
