An article about how unemployment rates are so low in some western states that people are turning-down jobs that pay $12 an hour and McDonald's employees are being offered $10 an hour to start...maybe "migration" is the answer for the US citizens on welfare or who can't find a job. There seem to be plenty of decent entry-level positions in these areas...

Criket: Yes, I have heard this, and for the reason that illegal immigration negatively impacts our national security, I do not support it. However, the argument that illegal immigrants are stealing jobs and don't add to our tax base and are stealing services from us is incorrect. I would just like people to cite pertinent reasons for being against illegal immigration.

Yes I read it, but look at the unemployment rate in places that have a lot of illegal aliens. I refuse to call them illegal immigrants, it just a PC term to make the illegal aliens look better.

Look at California, the unemployment rate there is something like +5%. How much does an entry level job pay there? My guess is that it’s close to state minimum wage.

Trust me in the West; we have lost a lot of young people moving out to get better jobs. So we have fewer and fewer people to fill the jobs, now people are starting to move back as the wages get better. So now lets say we have a bunch of illegal aliens take those entry level jobs what do you think will happen to the wages, HINT THEY WON”T GO UP. That means the people who want to stay in the west, close to where they were born and raised, have to move to other places to get better paying jobs.

Here’s something to think about, something like 75% of the jobs that Americans won’t do are done by Americans or legal aliens. So yes they are taking jobs. Ask yourself this, if we refused to hire any illegal aliens what would the unemployment rate be? HINT close to 0 that would mean fewer taxes for you and me.

Now your state that they aren’t stealing services from us. Well, you’re just wrong.

But I know you won’t believe what I just say so here’s a link and here’s the math.

http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2004/12/06/news/top_stories/19_56_5812_5_04.txt

Now California has something like 3 million Illegal aliens, with 48,000 illegal aliens in jail, so the state will spend another $1.4 billion to house them. In all each illegal alien cost the state at least 3,000 each. This is ONE state. Are you naive enough to really believe that people who are here illegally really pay taxes? Sure some do, but the majority doesn’t. They are paid cash under the table, which means no fed taxes, no state taxes, no FICA. That mean you and me pick up the tab. Or do you really believe that the few illegal aliens who pay tax pay enough to cover a minimum 9 BILLION bill in California? Do you believe that each illegal alien pays $3,000 in state tax? Including those in jail, I think not.

In all illegal aliens cost the federal government $10 billion more than they pay in taxes.

Now some more pertinent reasons, first they broke the law, committed a felony entering the country, most commit another felony by using false or stolen IDs, and commit another by working. Felons are just the people we need, NOT. Why do you think someone who has and continues to commit felonies, will sudden start following any of our laws?

Second we don’t know anything about these people. We don’t know their history what crimes they committed in their home country. What we do know is that they have no respect for our laws.

Third just because one state or one city has a low unemployment rate, doesn’t mean everywhere in the US has a low unemployment rate. In fact if an area has low unemployment, wages tend to go up and attract people who need jobs. I don’t know about you, but me make a little more money is a good thing, what it doesn’t mean is that we should suddenly throw open our boarders to people who don’t respect our laws or our way of life just so the wages can go down.

In some western states perhaps but not in the country as a whole. Look in most any local paper and jobs are offering pay rates of any where from minimum wage to 8 bucks an hour. Wages are a small part of the problem. Not only will illegals work cheaper but they usually do so with no benefits of any kind and if they are hurt or need medical attention then it becomes a welfare problem and costs American taxpayers. Employers want illegals since the only cost to them is cheap wages. Need proof? Listen to agriculture business owners screaming right now that the new immigration laws holding them accountable for hiring illegal workers will put them out of business if they HAVE to hire LEGAL immigrants. These employers have come right out and said they need illegal immigrants because they do the work that Americans won't do. However they never finish the sentence. It should read..."illegal immigrants do the work Americans won't do...at the wages we want to pay"....

this ia a small snapshot of a small area in the united states.

Please tell the profesional tilers whos jobs are being taken by the crew sitting outside home depot that their jobs are not being taken or the roofers or the hospitality staff. its not just the back breaking feild work that is affected.

they are used for these jobs becuase they will do them at a unlivable rate for americans who have to pay taxes provide insurance for their families. now when they get hurt they take their fake SS card to the hospital and get feww health care.

The immigration and employment laws are there for a reason. What do you think about disregarding the child labor laws to fill jobs to? I am sure we can get kids to work for much less too.

you see if we were not all tied up with solving what to do with all of the illegals who decided to break our laws we could be coming up with a decent program to bring in workers to work legally and fill jobs no one wants to take.

The goverment in the Cayman Islands has a kind of right approach to the situation. On that island once a job is posted and applicants come in the employer is required by law to hire a camainian citizen before any other if one applies they can only hire someone else if they fail to get a citizen to apply. The problem is that their citizens abuse the law by not showing up to work, getting fired and then when the job is reposted if they are the only citizen to apply the employer is required to hire them back. so it is not perfect.

and without fail the RACE CARD gets played. No one is complaining about the race of the person here just about the manner in which they came here. if there were no legal immigration routes then it would be diffrent but there are and they can stand in line like everyone else. For the guy playing the race card please find a logical argument your race card is getting worn out.

usajustice101 is wrong.

The IRS issued last year 1.6 million Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers to foreigners and the majority of them were Mexican illegals.

The only requirement for an ITIN is to have ID that shows that you are a foreign citizen and can't get a SSN. Being legal has nothing to do with it because it is not relevant to income taxes.

Yes illegals work and pay taxes.

Edit: I made a mistake. I mean that the majoroty of ITINs are issued to Mexicans AND illegals. Some ITINs are issued to family who live in Mexico.

The fact that some areas of the USA needs now or will need workers in the future doesn't mean that illegal immigrates are the answer. If after we stop illegal immigration, and it is shown that we need workers, we the citizens of the USA can set the criteria for who shall come, not the illegals no matter how hard working or well intended

In response to your premise that illegal aliens are aledgedly "adding to our tax base".

You might want to clarify that with some facts.
The largest majority of illegal aliens working in the USA are not paying any income taxes at all. A recent story in the Los Angeles Times reported that an estimated 40% of all L.A. counties working population is working "under the table" for cash and not paying any taxes, the story goes on to state that research shows most of that 40% are illegal immigrants who do not have the legal documentation to be working in the United States, and therefore work for cash.

For anyone who thinks that illegal aliens are all using ITINs to pay taxes, they are NOT. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service requires a number of valid and legal documents from applicants for ITINs, including passport. The IRS reports that just over 11,000 ITINs were issued last year, most of them to holders of legal worker visas, green cards. NOT TO ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Illegal alien mothers with anchor babies on welfare are not paying any taxes.
Illegal alien children are not paying any taxes.
The illegal alien men who stand around all day at so-called "day labor pick up spots" are not paying any taxes.

Most illegal aliens, when they say they are paying taxes (on paychecks from jobs they are not legally allowed to work), are using STOLEN social security numbers, a FELONY.
The US Social Security Administration defines any social security number which is "made up, borrowed, bought, belonging to any person other than you (including family member - like anchor baby, or friend) as a STOLEN number, A FELONY.
In addition any social security number which was obtained through fraud, or lies, by using a stolen ID (including bought, borrowed, made up etc.....), or lying about your legal status is a STOLEN social security number, A FELONY.
Your employer can NOT "give" you a social security number, that number is considered legally to be a STOLEN social security number, A FELONY.

The penalty for using a stolen social security number is 25 years in federal prison and a $250,000.00 fine. Illegal aliens who commit that felony will be deported and will never be allowed to enter the USA for any reason for the rest of their lives.

They are taking the jobs held by those with a high school diploma or less. Factory jobs, ranch and farm jobs, construction and other labor jobs.

Now a generation of illegals have kids in American colleges, getting in state tuition. Soon they will be taking skilled jobs.

There are some people in this country who would not work no matter what you paid them. Most of those idiots were transported from New Orleans to Texas.

here's the thing, try living in these areas where there seems to be a shortage of workers. if food and rent are too high, which in these areas is certainly the case, ten bucks an hour for a McDs job is not enough. it's not as if you can just move over to the next little community where rents are cheaper; that's a hundred miles away, and at $3 a gallon for gas a commute is absurd.

You are sooooo uninformed. You cannot compare anything to Oil Patch jobs. I have lived in oil boom towns it has been just like that in every town. "Migration" might be an answer but illegal aliens are not the answer. Oh one more thing have you ever spent a winter in Montana?
