Here is a heads up for you. The driver that communicates from you optical drive to your computers cpu has nothing to do with the operation speed of your optical drive.
The Brand of Media you use,
The Speed of that Media,
The Format of the Media
The Software you use,
Lastly the brand and speed of your burner
All of the above determine the Quality, and Speed of the project.
Most users are not aware of several things.
DVD-R is the best and most recognised media to use

Some new computers can burn DVD's at 8X and above, However older computers are only able to burn at 1X or 2X and when a user goes out and buys 8X or 16X they are not aware it is only partially compatible. Thus causing slower burn speeds.
Read the Packaging on the DVD Media you buy and make sure it will burn at 1X,2X,4X,8X, and 16X this will tell you that this media will work with older as well as newer computers and there burners.
Next I use the best possible Media I can buy and not bargin basement. This guarntee's that everytime I burn I get perfect results.

Software same thing I personally use Roxio's Toast-8
This software is an industry leader, and not entry level software that is included in most computers you buy and in my mind needs and leaves a lot to be desired.
