Believers are instructed not to search for knowledge - that it is somehow evil and can be construed as doubting the word of God.
Very convenient for the churches to teach this in an effort to retain some of their devotees.
That is my definition of evil.

As a believer, my foundation is firm, whereas the atheist is unsettled (still searching). I read atheist works only to find what makes them tick. The atheist has lots of truth, after all throw a rock into the air it will generally fall to the earth, so I can agree with them on many things.

As a Christian I am not afraid to read anything from an atheists, What is there to read, You don't believe in God so One short line of answers can settle it all, What is there for athiests to write about, they don't believe in God. Now you say that atheists reads the bible searching for truth, sorry you are wrong. Why should an atheists read the bible for truth if they don't believe in the one that gives the truth(GOD) I will agree that they read the bible to try to bring up a subject just to aggrevate a young Christain, But I am not a young Christian, I have been serving God for over 37 yrs. Therefore, In my 37 yrs. I have learned somethings, There is not one athiests I am afraid to read from, But I know what they will say will be short, Why do I say that, if you don't have a True subject to talk about, then there is nothing to talk about. But I do have a true subject to talk about.

i'm not afraid to read anything-i have only so many hours in a week to devote to reading, however, which limits how much i can read...and my personal preferences dictate the content!
i have seen plenty of posts from atheists reciting Bible verses (although when Christians do that, they get denigrated for 'cutting and pasting') but i sincerely doubt many of them are doing it 'searching for truth'...most of what i have seen is taking things out of context in order to insult and belittle Christians...as to whether i should be reading 'atheist works' for some reason, i don't see much point-although anyone, Christian or otherwise who wants to read them is 'none of my business/fine with me'. i have chosen to follow Christ...i don't NEED to keep searching for truth, i've found it in Christ

God wrote the Bible as a book of His scientific facts. Which I'll believe over any books written by creative false thoughts of arrogant men.

Believers are generally not seeking knowledge... they are seeking validation of their 'beliefs'... the ILLUSION of knowledge... i.e., self-delusion. In other words, by connecting with other people who are just as insane as they are, they recieve confirmation that insanity is 'normal'... which it is.
Heck... as far as I can tell, even sane people (atheists/agnostics) are happy to confirm that for them... in the USA at least, with over 85% of the population 'believers', insanity IS normal.
Polls show that 20% of them believe that the sun orbits around the earth. Sorry... I'm not going to confirm THAT for them.

We are? I guess I'd better stop reading the Blind Watchmaker, The God Delusion, and Letter to a Christian Nation then!

Cos we don't have a shaky faith we have to protect; because we really like to know about all sortsa stuff; we like to familiarise ourselves with what fundies believe so we can fight them on their own ground because they're damn useless at playing in our territory.
It is most of the comments you make about Invisible Sky Thingies and other silly things that crack us up best.
Please don't stop.
We don't really want you to wake up - I mean, who would we larff at then?
