The Good Samaritan. Here Jesus tells a parable about a man who feels compassion for and helps another man, without any religious motivation to do so. The priest and the Levite just passed by, but it was the Samaritan who took pity on him.

I hope you understand what a 'parable' is.

And secondly, who were the Samaritans?

Thirdly, WHERE are the Ten Commandments found? The first four deal with our relationship to God and the last six deal with our relationship to our fellow human beings. In the New Testament, it goes even further than the Ten Commandments : it says to love all others even as Christ love the Church. Unfortunately for us, the English language has only one word for love. The original Greek had at least four words for love, depending on the type of love, e.g. agape (unselfish, outgoing concern), eros (sexual love between a man and his wife), etc. 1 Cor 13 spells it out : if I love (agape) you, then I would not do anything to harm you. Further, I will go out of my way to help you. AND I WILL DO ALL THAT WITHOUT LOOKING OUT FOR ANY REWARD FROM YOU. This is basically what the whole BIBLE is about.

i do no longer accuse atheists of that, yet while i ought to play devil's advise right here, i'm going to describe the place they are coming from with that. i think of that what they attempt to get you to admit at this component of their reasoning, is *gratitude* in direction of God for His revelation of stable habit. besides the incontrovertible fact that it must be written in a sort called the bible (which, you should confess, is a tremendously previous e book), it became probable an oral historic past for an exceedingly long term from tribal era, which, while accompanied, led to fulfillment for the tribe that tailored those precepts. according to danger, below all that, that's what those Christians try to get you to admit. No biggie so some distance as i would be sure additionally, once you communicate the historic past of empires, a number of them have been tremendously immoral and did no longer final very long. people who had enforcement of morals gave the impression to be the main effective and non violent.

The parable of the Good Samaritan is a story taught by Jesus. The point of the story is the moral of the story. The story is recorded in the Bible. Thus, the Bible is the source of morals for the Christian.

The original, self-serving question was, "Who is my neighbor ("Love your neighbor as yourself")? The answer- "Go and do likewise."

The Tenuak tells us to be concern with others and Jesus is saying that even others who may be outside of the faith practice His truths !!! Or any other interoretation you might want to give it !!! By the way a samaritan is half Jewish and probably practices Torah !!! So your premise may not work for you !!!

What about the 10 Commandments?

What about the verse that says God has written his laws on out hearts so that even those who never read the Bible or heard the Gospel still instinctively know right from wrong?

The priest and the Levite knew what they should have done but failed to do it.

That's why Jesus called people like them "Hypocrites!"

Giving credit where credit is due isn't a part of religious thinking.... Thanking God or Jesus or Allah for the good deeds done by their fellow man is more their style. It's silly, but it's true. Have you ever seen how quick they are to lightly dust over the work of a life-saving physician just to run off the a statue of Mary and bend their knees in thanks and praise, making up their little BS ideas of how god assisted the doctor or worked his miracle through him....

Go figure.... It's loony.
