Read: this IS NOT A BIBLE FORUM. It is not a christian forum, or a muslim forum, etc,....It is a place where all people, regardles of religion or non-religion are allowed to come and discuss relgion and spirituality which effects everyone.
As for not quoting scripture, it is honestly hard for them to think for themeselves. As soon as you ask them something, automatically it's "but the bible says". Not "but I THINK".

On what do you base your "facts" on? You say that the bible is a book, when really it is a collection of books bound together into one volume. Not all of the books contained within were written hundreds of years after the events about which they describe. In fact, many of the books, especially the New Testament, were written just a few decades after the events, written by eye witnesses of the events themselves, and some were written even sooner than that.
But that was essentially their final edition. The stories and sayings of many of the books, especially the Gospels, that were in the final edition had been talked about and written down separately very soon after they occurred and were then collected and joined together into one book. Just because this compilation may not have been completed for several years afterward, doesn't mean they are any less reliable.
I also think it is a little naive to think that non-biblical sources are more credible than the bible. I find it insulting and hypocritical of people who give blindly accept non-biblical historical literature as absolute fact as if the authors of such books don't have their own biases. They also ignore the fact that many, if not not most, of all non-biblical historical books are also written decades or hundreds of years after the events they report on. But people don't doubt their accuracy nearly as much as they do the bible.

I don't get the answer from the person who called this a "Bible Forum". This is a forum for the free and open interraction of people who want to ask questions and those who want to answer them. Another person referred to "the Bible" as a Manual, that a christian needs to refer to before he can answer a question about Christianity, like a car mechanic needs to refer to a repair manual. When a person asks a question about Christianity he or she isn't asking anybody to "fix" anything. Moreover, anyone with half a brain doesn't have to turn to any kind of a book to give an honest and thoughtful response to a question, using the intelligence he already has in his own brain... which begs the question, if he cannot do that but needs to turn to somebody else's writings before he can respond, does he HAVE ANY? If a Christian can't even answer a simple question about HIS own religion that he supposedly already knows and believes in, it makes ya wonder.
Ohh, that thing about giving 'em a violation for not answering the question.... absolutely not. That would make you as stupid and those who can't answer a question at all without grabbing for a handy Bible Quote LOL.

Only if it has nothing to do with your question. But why would you want to get tagged as a 'reporter?' Just ignore the answers you don't think are suiting your needs.
The Bible is the foundation of Christianity. They try to live by it and that is why it is often quoted. Many great people in history have quoted the Bible, including George W. Bush! (He just messed it all up, is all, LOL)
It isn't a bad book to get quotes from. A lot of them make perfect sense a lot are common sense.
How many times did your mother say, 'Remember the Golden Rule?' and then finish it off with, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.'
I know, I know, but it's an urban legend...and it's funny!

Well, that would depend on the question. Unfortunately for people like you, it's really difficult to answer questions about Christianity WITHOUT using the Bible. It's our manual.
The same goes for other religions. Why would I ask Muslims a question about Islam, while expecting them to NOT use the Koran? Or Hindus, and expect them not to use the Vedas?
I think it's kind of pointless to ask something about a religion, and not expect people to use the religious book that pertains to that religion.
So the question to ask yourself is...what's your problem with people using the Bible, as long as it's relevant to the question?
Edit: And if you believe that the entire Bible was written hundreds of years after the events described, I seriously recommend you read more on the subject. That's only partially true. The events in Genesis WERE written hundreds of years after the fact, if not thousands. The rest, however, were not. They were written within decades, which is a relatively short amount of time, considering the era in which they were written.

Actually, you are in a religion & spirituality forum. This isn't just a Bible forum. I don't think it is right to claim someone has violated the rules of your question by quoting from the Bible or any other book.
To do so means that you don't have an open mind. Some quote scripture to justify their answer and to offer what they believe is proof.
If it's facts you are after, I suggest you have a read from the link below.

Should you ask a question about Christianity you would expect to receive an answer that complies with your expectations. The answer would undoubtedly be an opinion of someone who professes to be a Christian. An opinion does not need scriptural support to be valid. However, many speakers will use Biblical quotes to make their opinions be more acceptable to the listeners. So, the answer to your question is probably no. Especially if you do not compound the question while an answer is being given.

Well for crying out loud!!
The only viable source on Christianity is in the bible!! The fundamental beliefs of every Christian is in the bible. How can you expect us to answer about our faith without our source? Then demand retribution with a violation notice? That is sheer hypocrisy.
If you want the facts then I suggest you study the historical facts before you recite the myths you heard from other men and women.
One thing for sure we know for a fact that the books and epistles were written within the lifetimes of the Apostles. Some of them three years after the Christ died. Some of them within ten years. Most of them before 70 A.D.
There is just too much evidence in our museums, and corroboration from outside sources, like Josephus, Tacitus, Pliny the younger, to say that they were written by men hundreds of years afterwards.
Perhaps the Gnostic's writings from the third century have survived but they are full of lies, and exaggerations.
Considering the documents as original not something from the twenty-first century mindset would give you the ancient source of documentary you need. Repeatedly they prove themselves correct to the times they were written, a few years after the Christ's crucifixion.
The bibliographical aspects? the textual tradition from the original documents to the copies and manuscripts of the documents we posses to-day.
Even the internal evidence of the documents stand by their claims. The external evidence of the Christian, as well as the Judaic documents squares up with and aligns with the facts, dates, persons from it'sown contemporary world.
The books, the letters, and the Testament is valid from the first century A.D. All were written within the lifetime of the Apostles, and the authors were not deceptive nor stupid men. they had nothing to gain by lying to you and I.

Anyone can send a violation but it's pretty small minded. If I paraphrase and not quote directly would that be acceptable? If you ask a general question about christianity, I'm sure it could be answered without using the bible.

Your information is incorrect. Many of the books of the bible were written only a few decades later. And this is the information from my college class taught by a Taoist.
But the simple fact is that you cannot separate a religion from it's holy text. I note that you don't ask Hindu's questions and then bar them from quoting the Bhagavad-Gita or the Upanishads. Nor do you ask Taoists to refrain from the Tao-Te-Ching. Admit that you have pre-formed ideas and you aren't interested in the truth.

To comment on the previous answers, this is not a bible forum, it is a religion and spirituality forum, not just one religion. Anyone who has asked a question can delete and report answers from their questions.
I would not say you should give them a violation for it, they do not know any better other than what is written conveniently in a book for them so they do not have to think for themselves.
I would at least thumbs down the answers though.
