Hi:

You can do anything you want with this. You might try looking up mardi-gras floats and decorative masks, and maybe that will give you some ideas for what you can paint. Almost any type of acrylic or waterbased paint should dry pretty quickly, so you can paint it practically up to the last minute. There is a nice paperclay product you can use if you want to add to the original mask - it takes a bit to dry, but you could probably dry it a little more quickly in an oven set at about 175-200 degrees F.

I'll try to add more later. Hope this helps in the meantime.

Additional:

Mask making goes way back into history, and you can do just about anything with your mask. You can do any type of decorative painting on it, and depending on the mask, you might try placing a few coats of gesso over it to prepare it for further painting. (Gesso is an acrylic art primer with grit in it like marble dust.) It will allow the following paint layers to adhere more evenly. Depending on what you paint on the mask, I really like loading up surfaces, and I will take very diluted acrylic paint and an old toothbrush, and dip the toothbrush in the paint, and then flick it on the surface - this is a technique used frequently in painting.

I saw a cool video that you can get to from the Pastel Journal website, that was from an art convention that demoed some really cool Golden acrylic mediums that might give you some ideas of surface treatments. You can get to from the video link on the Pastel Journal.

Email me if you need more suggestions quick. I truly hope this helps you. I also added in a link to the very cool online artist community, wetcanvas. Basic membership is completely free, and there are currently more that 113,000 worldwide members, and you can browse a lot of stuff there as a guest. This is one of the coolest sites I know of on the web. Just thought I'd mention it in case you're an art type.

Paint one half black and the other half white or make one side male and the other side female. Or take a look at some carnival masks...some of them are very cool.

umm...i would do abstract stuff, perhaps i wud squeeze swirls of poster colours on the mask (not too much) and after that, i would press it lightly with paper so it would dry faster, then i also have an abstract painting and an abstract-patterned mask!

Whatever you want. Don't let people put you down for it either. It is a piece of you.
