"Jesus has a very special love for you. As for me, the silence and the emptiness is so great that I look and do not see, listen and do not hear.- Mother Teresa to the Rev. Michael Van Der Peet, September 1979" http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20070823/wl_time/motherteresascrisisoffaith;_ylt=AgsrTNMV1TvmkFhd_QfnpKis0NUE

There are many other statements like this from Mother Teresa as we are just finding out via the new book. I now have more respect for her,as it appears she was someone who followed, out of faith, but never "felt" the promised "spirit" and wasnt going to lie about the what she didnt feel.

Imagine this...heres a person that is the all-time model for "doers" of the faith...for practioners....for people who say little and do a lot.

Boy, if she never really "felt" God's presence...can you possibly believe anyone else's claim to the contrary? Answer: nooooo fricking way.

I think it puts paid to all these false christians who tell atheists and agnostics they're going to hell for not believing even if they live a life of good deeds.
It's hard to imagine anyone more christian in action than Mother Teresa who done more good in a day than most do in a lifetime. The fact that she still stayed and worked in Calcutta even though her faith wavered says a lot about her character.
I'm an atheist by the way but if a Christian god planned on sending her to hell for not fully believing then it's not worth believing in anyway.

mom Teresa substitute into no longer an agnostic. there's an prolonged custom of holy human beings and saints experiencing what's called the "dark night of the soul." i myself discover it notably comforting that even the holiest human beings obtainable pass throughout the time of the comparable doubts, if no longer worse, as everyone else.

Yes I listened to that when someone posted it yesterday, all she was expressing was at times she had doubts, so does everyone who has faith. I think anyone who would witnessed that much suffering would begin to question things.

Of course Mother Teresa was unable to detect Jesus in her life. It's because he isn't there!

If he ever lived at all, he's long since dead. Dead, dead, dead! Crucified, dead, and buried. Dead and never coming back, despite bragging about how he would. Didn't come back then, hasn't come back since, isn't back now, and won't be coming back in the future.

Why not? Because, for those who missed the point the 1st time around, he's DEAD!

There was a (Oz) news comment within the last 24 hours that suggested that she wressled with her faith. AND it seemed like a very dark struggle. But it was more about the existance of God not Satan.

Which is slightly different from suggesting she had none.

I think anyone who is deeply spiritual questions the existence of a god they can't interact with. Faith only goes so far.

You are completely misunderstanding her. Did you even read the article properly... l don't know how you got to this conclusion, it's silly.

Here's one of the other quotes, from the same article:

Christ is everywhere - "Christ in our hearts, Christ in the poor we meet, Christ in the smile we give and in the smile that we receive."

AND she says in that article that she loves God.

Doesn't seem to make any difference to the Church -- full steam ahead with her sainthood. Those revelations only make her closer to God. Hmmmmmmm
