i was sent this by txt and am trying to find out what it means if anyone has any clues i would be really gratefull,i know it's japenese but thats all i know...help!

I'll check it out... It's not ordinary Japanese, could even be classical Japanese, or something out of a play...

Alright, it seems that you're not the only one looking for a translation of this- I found this text with line breaks, which suggests to me that it's a 'tanka' poem. It's tricky without the original Japanese script though...


Hito ni awan/ tsuki no naki yo wa / omoiokite / mune hashiribi ni / kokoro yaki ori

Here we go-

'When I recall/ that dark night without a moon/ when we could not meet/ my breathing begins to race/ my heart bursts into flames'

That's roughly what it means, not the best translation though... I tried to get it to follow the 5/7/5/7/7 syllable count ;)

Domo Asuka! Kedo sonna ni homerareru to hazukasiku naru...
Asuka no hou ha kono tanka wo rikai dekita you desu. Sonkei! Boku tte, igirisujin de daigakusei datta... nihongo, honyaku senkou desita...

Let me jiggle what Aska wrote about a bit then-

'I want to see him,
this dark and moonless night-
I think of things to come,
and a flame rises in my chest,
my heart falls into turmoil.'

Could be him or her there, but my gut tells me this was written by a woman... men seemed to talk more about weeping into their sleeves than being consumed with fire...

This is a waka, or old Japanese short poem by Ono no Komachi(小野小町) and is contained in an anthology Kokin Waka Shuu(古今和歌集).

yea this is literary japanese and very old style tanka poetry love song.
from 'kokin waka shuu'(905 or 914, by emperor godaigo, there are about1,100 tanka poetry)
