I am wondering when people say" what's up, dup!" what's that mean?

It started with a fellow named, "Dupree," on a myspace.com blog:

"What's up Dup? How's things goin' for u man? Haven't talked to u in a long time. Keep doin' your thing bro. B'easy."

It's just a rhyming nonsensical thing. Like the old saying "get back, jack."
