my boyfriend is in the Navy and he made me memorize all of the ranks, along with the uniform's insignia. i memorized them from a chart in the bluejacket's manual. it was super easy to remember because it was something to look at. i know all the branches now. depends on how you learn best... that's how you'd remember it best. good luck!

Use the similarity method - the Army, Air Force and Marines have the same officer ranks, but you'll have to be cognizant of knowing that an Air Force Captain (O-3) is not the same as a Navy Captain (O-6). There are charts online that will help you out as well. This link may help: http://www.easternct.edu/personal/faculty/pocock/ranks.htm

The Air Force, Army, Marine Corp all have the same officer ranks
"Be My Little General"
"Brigadier, Major, Lieutenant, and General"
is the mnemonici originally used to learn the different types of generals (O-6 to O-9)

I learned the marines ranks from playing Battlefield 2 on the computer. The army, airforce, and navy i learned just from watching the history channel when they do the cool WW2 shows like DogFights and the Color of War, things like that.

You are staying with in the US branches you can use the standard pay grades as a tool (E-1 = this is in the AF/Army?USMC/USN). If you are going international I know that NATO uses a simliar system....if the countries are in NATO.

If you have problems just remembering various ranks, how can you possibly be expected to know what is necessary to do your job function and complete your assignments? Can people in the military be so witless as to actually be asking such a question kiddies?
