If everybody would plant themselves 10 trees throughout the life, it would greatly help our environment. How many trees did you plant in your life? Would you agree with this idea?

It's a great idea and if everyone joined in it would make a big difference to the environment.

Trees have many advantages besides aesthetics and providing varied habitats for other fauna and flora but a little care is needed, the wrong trees planted in the wrong area can do more harm than good to the environment, especially in the long term.

I've planted about 50,500 trees. We planted 3 small forests in West Africa last year, varied native species in different environments, the local people did most of the work and in time will benefit by harvesting the fruit and can use the casualty timber for building and fuel. The trees also provide shelter for people and animals, prevent soil erosion, act as wind breaks to protect crops etc. Total cost (excluding the land which was free) was about $0.10 per tree.

Most of the other 500 trees were planted as part of improvements to the land at a remote property in Scotland. More trees will be planted there soon and we're going back to Africa to plant more trees there.

No, and unless you live in an area that historically had trees and has plenty of water, you shouldn't either. Trees for the sake of trees only helps your conscience, not the environment. Where I live there are no native trees and it only rains 6-10 inches each year, which is all taken up by shrubs and grasses. Planting trees here would actually harm the environment.

Also, trees or other dark colored plants can increase global warming if they're planted in the wrong places.

Trees combat global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, contribute to soil health, retain water, and cool overheated urban areas. Planting a tree is a symbol of a looking-forward kind of action; looking forward, yet not too distantly. The Trees are great donors, they gives us fruits, flowers, medicines, herbs or shelter and we gain from them thanklessly and cut them for our greed of one or the other things.Deforestation is normal these days, thus creating many environmental problems such as it can lead to environmental imbalance, pollution, global warming, soil erosion etc. We can take an initial step to save the trees and make our earth green by First of all,we must try to recycle the paper and must avoid the paper wastage. Create awareness among people about importance of trees and the need for their conservation. We got birth On this beautiful earth. Earth is one of the eight planets We all are a kind of its tenants. It has given us trees which give us fruits, flowers, wood and breeze. It gives us necessary things to live It simply gives and forgive. We cannot survive without water and air, So we can live only here. It provides us with food, clothing and shelter It is a fact that no one can alter. It is the planet where we learn composite and prime, To destroy it by deforestation or other ways is not less than a crime. It is our duty, To preserve the earth’s beauty. Now it is the time to take a stand, Let’s keep the surroundings clean and green Plant more and more trees to have earth’s beautiful scene. categories Poems categories Earth, Poem

That would be a fantastic idea. At my last house, which was on a pretty small block, I planted a lemon tree, an apricot tree, four evergreen trees and two deciduous trees. I was devastated when I drove past a year or so later to see most of them had been pulled out! The house looks boring and unloved. I can't understand society today - they hate trees because of leaves "messing up the backyard" - it's unbelievable how ugly homes look with just a massive house and no trees!

Love your question. Yes, I plant many endemic trees each year. However, why does it seem that planting trees is so much more important than saving the natural grasslands? The two go hand-in-hand. Natural grasslands are just as important and need to be conserved and maintained as well. Compare the bio diversities of the two and see for yourself why it is so important to preserve the quantity and quality of grasslands.

Getting back to trees. I recommend that you focus your attention on planting endemic species rather than just planting a tree for the sake of bulking up on numbers. Exotic tree species are generally invasive as there is no natural predation.

I've planted none - but I would agree with the idea if it meant helping the Earth we live in. But then again, if every person on this planet done that {6 billion people and counting} wouldn't that be a lot of trees? Unless we put them back in forests again or something.

If everyone did that, that's 600 billion trees. What is 600 billion trees going to do for the humans living on this planet. Why don't we plant some freaking potatoes instead and help with, i don't know, a legitimate problem like world hunger? It also will return some nitrogen to the soil, which will, in turn, stop soil erosion which is a much bigger problem than the air quality.

People all around us are suffering and you are going to waste capital planting trees. The world doesn't feel pain or hunger, what's the point of preserving the freaking thing if everyone else is suffering?

Its a novel idea to pass from person to person. Our planet is going to meet its doom, only for destruction of our jungles.I have planted trees, but most of them are not there now.But your question is really an eye opener.Your question has an appeal which cannot be described in words.I promise to plant trees from now onwards and also persuade other likeminded ones to do so.It costs nothing, the effort is also much less, but it has world wide effect. Thanks for waking up my soul.I Promise to plant at least one tree every week and also take care for it.I will also make my family members, relatives, friends, acquaintences to do the same. Thanks again boy.

I have planted tens of thousands of trees. I've also harvested some of them. What most people don't understand is that it's not the number of trees that count but rather the number of acres devoted to trees. 5000 trees on one acre will not do as much good as 500 trees on one acre. We need to learn to plant forest rather than trees. If you plant a tree in your yard, that's fine but it really doesn't do much good. Instead you can encourage forest development by NOT recycling paper. (Not recycling increases the value of keeping land in forest and therefore increases the amount of forest.)

Absolutely 10 or even 20... the more trees we plant the more fresh air for our environment.
