I imagine they could be spray painted but I am not really sure. You could ask the company at their web site (see below). Click on "About Formica" and then select "Contact Formica." I could find nothing in their FAQs but it seems its not designed to be painted.
Did you know Formica was originally conceived as an electrical insulator as a substitute "for mica," hence the name chosen when the company split from Westinghouse to set up its own company in 1913.

you can do more than just paint look into the granit look alike it is a 3 part system you can find it at your hardware store you have likly seen the t.v. ads for this stand up well made for indoors or out on floors and steps
