and why are they so hostile when challenged? in that sense, athiests are just as bad as fundamentalists in any religion.

In common usage, people often use the word theory to signify a conjecture, an opinion, or a speculation. In this usage, a theory is not necessarily based on facts; in other words, it is not required to be consistent with true descriptions of reality. True descriptions of reality are more reflectively understood as statements which would be true independently of what people think about them. In this usage, the word is synonymous with hypothesis.

I believe they ( some ) do this merely in discussions with religious people, where the religious people try to blow up a little incertitude in a (scientific) theory to justify their belief in god, and the atheist hardens its point of view by saying that scientific theory is a undeniable fact.

your question is a bit sloppy.

the part of reality that a scientific theory is trying to describe as accurate as possible is a fact.

gravity is a fact but the theory of gravity is not a fact ( that is it is not 100% accurate and never will be)

The beauty of science is that it can change according to whatever new findings have been discovered. Religion however is static, dogmatic and doesn't change.

Anyway, theory in the scientific usage differ from the word theory in the common usage.

The fact that the Earth goes around the sun, or that objects fall to the ground is called the "Theory of gravitation" not the "fact of gravity". In fact, most things that you take for granted are theories but that doesn't make them untrue.

If a theory can be proven and give the same results over and over it becomes accepted, but it never becomes a "fact" at least not in the scientific sense.

English is a tricky langauge. Perhaps you should take some time to learn the difference between a theory and a scientific theory

There's a difference between fact, theory, and proven theory. First something is a theory. Then it gets proven, it's a proven theory which is also known as fact. Not all science is fact, but a lot of it is proven theory...which *is* fact.

I think people get defensive because believers constantly attack things that have been 100% proven. When you keep getting told the world is only 6000 years old-- even though it's been proven thousands of times over that's it's billions of years older-- it gets pretty frustrating. Proof vs. and ancient book just gets on logical people's nerves.

a chortle. Rebutal #a million truthful factor, no it is easy to attempt each and every thing. in spite of the indisputable fact that, it incredibly is why we hire scientists, in basic terms as you may call the plumber which could tutor you the place he found out plumbing to repair a leak. A scientist can produce and tutor a level or some variety of guidance. a clergyman won't be able to, as his in basic terms skill is asserting what he believes. Rebutal #2 impressive, different than that technology is an interpretation of the data which could then be utilized to actual activities and straightforward procedures to tutor it real. it is subjective in that each and each guy or woman scientist may be biased, in spite of the indisputable fact that, each and every scientific theory first passes by way of a peer evaluate. the indisputable fact that sciene differences in basic terms helps it. If a scientist discovered that atoms don;t exist, he could bypass the evaluate and maximum of recent physics and chemistry could be rewritten. If God is shown to no longer exist, the theist falls returned on faith. Rebutal #3: The scientific technique types scientific theories based on the data that are then utilized and are useful as such. It produces "certainty" by using fact it explains actuality. additionally, who makes a decision that God exists? The bible. Who makes a decision that the bible is real? God. It would not get any further around. At best, the two technology and faith are incorrect. yet theyre no longer equaly incorrect, technology fashions actuality, on a similar time as faith stipulates faith.

"Why do athiests assume that science is always fact?"

In order for something to be called 'science', it HAS to have evidence. Science isn't a matter of opinion; it has to meet certain requirements. That's why Intelligent Design is not science; it doesn't meet those specific requirements that are necessary for it to be labeled 'science'.

"Theories are not facts."

Look up the definition of 'scientific theory'. It doesn't mean the same as 'theory' in everyday usage.

"why are they so hostile when challenged?"

Why in the world would you think that? Go ahead: Challenge me. What do I have wrong? What does science have wrong? And why?

In scientific usage, a theory does not mean an unsubstantiated guess or hunch, as it can in everyday speech. A theory is a logically self-consistent model or framework for describing the behavior of a related set of natural or social phenomena.

What about the theory of gravity?

By your logic, gravity isn't a fact.

I used to be an atheist before but thankfully not now, 100 % believer now and the atheists here that have not converted yet are only here for one reason, to learn more about God because they are fence sitters still not sure if they want to jump in. REAL atheists like I used to be would never hang out in a place such as this that is full of religion. in their questions and answers they will deny it but that is only so their friends that see their questions an answers will not make fun of them.they will put up a very strong anti-God front but a front is all it really is.....100 % here are secretly fence sitters,.
