I live in Utah and was raised Mormon. I think most or all of my extended family (even to second cousins) are part of the church, but it is mainly my mother's side that is active. I guess the main reason I left was that I eventually came to believe that Joseph Smith was not a prophet and that the Book of Mormon is not based on ancient writings. I realize there are some differences between Mormonism and mainline Christianity, but I don't have any real knowledge with what those are. I think the nature of the godhead is a big one and the relationship between Jesus and Satan and possibly even something about prophets. Some of these issues I have still not decided. I believe Jesus was resurrected and is our Savior and will return someday. One of the biggest beliefs I have is that evolution did occur, but God guides the process. Politically, I am quite conservative on most issues. I understand that some churches that accept evolution have really liberal social views. Any advice?

I would seek God with all my heart about making the right choice. Be open to however or wherever God leads. He wants what is best for you. You may even be a little surprised when the answer comes. You may even be a little uncertain in the beginning but assurance that you are at the right place will eventually come. There may be disappointments but remember people are not perfect. You are seeking God's truth and His ways.

Well, I must admit, when I just saw the opening phrase on the leader board, I was about to see whether you might just seem like a good candidate for the Lord's true Church - the LDS Church.
But since you are actually trying to escape the real Church of God, I obviously, can't necessarily recommend that one to you.
Can I??

You are actually going the Opposite way in faith to my direction, having come from general Christendom at 17.

But obviously, none of us should be actually 'forcing' you to any belief, even though I testify to you about the truth of this one and only 'Living Church'.
You will find that none other Church is a true and living Church of God. None has living prophets constantly seeking and receiving God's will to lead the Church.

But as I have had much dealings among the general faiths out there [although many have watered themselves down considerably since I was in them], it would seem you need to seek basic Bible preaching churches.
But as you say, most of those certainly do not believe in evolution.

Neither do I.

In fact, I wrote a book which proves evolution to be a farce - it is called 'TWO BIRDS ... ONE STONE!!"

I suggest you read it for absolute present day proof of the Adam and Eve account of holy writ.
I think you will open your eyes to some magnificent revelations!!

But, really, returning to your original Q, fast and pray about the wonderful Church which God has just placed into your lap from a toddler.
You lucky, blessed thing!

Greetings. Jesus established one Church and taught one set of principles. He will have only one bride at the end of time. Everyone has their opinions about what is best. My advice to you is to pray about your situation, read the bible, read up on Church history and learn about the fragmented state of Christianity. Go at it with an open mind and let the Holy Spirit guide you. Look for the Church that sings to your soul, not one that sings to the nature that adores entertainment. Do not let others lead you to a group that entertains you but dries out your spirit. When you inquire about a church, go talk to the participants and leaders, not to people who think they know about the group. If I want to learn about the Mormons I would talk to Mormons and read books by Mormons, not stuff written by people who disagree with Mormons. The same should be true in your search for the True Church. Just don't forget to do some research on your own to verify doctrines and practices.

I would recommend the Catholic Church to you. They are conservative and support good morals. As an institution it is guided by the Holy Spirit but staffed by humanity. That means it can make mistakes like any other group with humans.

Christ will lead you to where you need to be if you let Him. Peace be with you.

Your right Joseph Smith was not a prophet. He is never mentioned in the bible and if im not mistaken i think he wrote the book of mormon which he says he was inspired by god to write? but anyway Revelation 22:18,19 says that anyone who adds or removes any portion of the bible will not inherit everlasting life. I agree with you that Jesus is our savior but we should not expect to see him return literally, that is not possible. How would people in other parts of the world see him? I believe that he is now present, everyone is seeing his prescence in the since that we are seeing so many prophecies fulfilled in a much larger scale like hunger, war, human hatred etc... the diciples asked jesus what will be his prescence read matthew 24:3-14 and after reading that dont you think we are seeing those things now? his prescence!! we are already seeing his presecnce!! and remember what jesus said that in john 14:19 ? I wonder why you believe in evolution? you sound like you have strong faith in god. Read genesis 1: 21 and genesis 2:7 we learn that god formed man from dust not from animals and in genesis 2:21, 22 we find that eve was formed; not from an animal, but with one of adams ribs as starting material. Although there are highly educated people who believe in evolution there are also highly educated people who do not believe it. How can you decide which ones to believe? Well, viewing the group as a whole and not criticizing individuals, which group do you believe would be the most honest, those who believe that man was created by god and so feel accountable to him, or those who say they are a product of chance and so are accountable only to themselves? So, we personally need to examine the evidence to see whether creation or evolution provides the most satisfying answers to life. I personally dont believe in evolution. But my advice is: have a personal bible study with a jehovah witness. you might be surprised what you learn!! although it may be hard for your family since they are mormon but remember its your life and it is a matter of everlasting life or death.

Dear friend in search of the Truth,
My only suggestion is before you decide on a church, first read the Hebrew Testament and New Testament at least three times on your own. ( E-Sword has a good selection of Bibles for free download at www.e-sword.net )

Thereafter, base your decision about the church in question on the Word of God.

In the mean time, worship God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ on your own - just you and God with no interference from any other church or Christian - the Holy Spirit will guide you.

I recently wrote a book on the Unveiling of Jesus Christ - it's free and you can download it from http://smithministries.tk

I choose a 'non-denominational' church. We believe the Bible as it is written. I have taken most of the newer translations and compared them to the King James Version and have found them to be equal in content.
My parents were Baptists, but I don't like the idea of any denomination telling me what is correct and incorrect. I can read and understand the Bible.
We do need someone to help from time to time with something that we cannot grasp. So, any Bible believing church will work for you. Visit them all to determine that they are and select the one that you feel most comfortable with.

I suggest you read the bible and visit several churches/ some are more lively than others most sing songs hymns or choruses to praise God. I at first raid it as Methodist I was raised Methodist and that is OK I have been regularly to Baptist churches Anglican and now Congregational. but best to try several and see how you find them. remember God loves you if a church is not welcoming it is not a good church.

Start with United Methodist. They are liberal, but if you accept evolution, the Baptists may not be the place. If you're politically conservative, maybe you can keep your politics separate.

Your questioning faith. That is a good start. But rather then have someone suggest what church you should go to in order to be spoon fed with beliefs, try continuing your constant struggle with the faith.Question everything. When you do you will find many more inconsistencies then who is and who isn't a prophet. And perhaps one day you may even discover that faith is in actuality a self held delusion.Don't believe me?Look up the dictionary definition of 'delusion' and then apply that to your quest for understanding your faith.
