YES! You can play in a tournament. If you play in a scramble (3-4 person team) this is a select the best shot you could play as a C-D player. Most fundraisers are looking for anyone to play.

If you would like to play in tournaments regularly you will need to get a handicap. Ask the pro at the course you play. The handicap will allow you to compete with everyone. Remember golf is for fun. If you are having fun then enter. My mother plays all the time and she shoots 95-110 (GROSS). With her handicap she beats me all the time (NET).

Definately. Any scramble or flighted tournaments would work great for you. I play in them all the time and have been since i started playing. It builds confidence and skills playing with others in tournament situations. You get to observe others in situations that you will be in eventually and see how to handle some shots at some point in your golf game.

Yes you can. At your level, you should join a golf tournament to gain experience and also check out how good golfers execute shots that you have never know. You shouldn't be expecting to win but more to know how much more you can improve on your game.

Good luck.

If 87 is your best score then no. You should be able to break par at the very least.
