WILL PETROLEUM JELLY WORK BETTER THAN USED MOTOR OIL TO CURE MANGE? ( DOGS LOSING HAIR, DUE TO SCRATCHING )

The motor oil thing is a myth. PLEASE don't put that on the dog. It will do more harm than good.

Mange can be any number of problems. You need a vet to tell you exactly what it is and exactly how to treat it.

If you just randomly start rubbing stuff on, you could also do more harm than good.

hi, back in the old days they thought "oil" would smother the mites, same theory with the vaseline. It DOESNT work. Mange sucks! Is it sarcoptic mange where EVERYONE pets & humans are itching? Or is it Demodex mange where the puppies get it from their mother? Do your research. FROM EXPERIENCE do not let this go untreated cuz it only gets worse and can become generalized. We spent about a grand at the vet on mitaban dips, medicated baths,anti-biotics and skin scrapings.... & to boost her immune system we bought doggie vitamins and hypo-allergenic dog food, fish oil tabs with Omega 3 & 6's and vitamin c's $$$$$$$$$$ and all because we waited too long, this can worsen overnight ! I tried several home remedies and it made the mange better but only for a short time, but my dog was a stray mutty mangey dog when we found her. She has been mite free for over 6 months now !!! Click the link below for home remedies for mange.... and I bought everything I needed for Ted's remedy at Walmart for around $5.00...YES there are remedies for for puppies with the mange too. Feel free to e-mail me if I can be of any help !

Motor oil is an old myth: it doesn't treat any condition in a dog, but will cause harm to it. In the USA, pouring motor oil on a pet is consider animal cruelty.
Petroleum jelly is no help either.
You need to get the dog to a vet for a skin scraping first, to determine which kind of mange it is, the contagious one or the hereditary one. Only then you will be told the proper treatment.
The intense hitching/scratching will cause a secondary skin infection, that can get really bad once it enters the blood stream if not treated.
Please do your dog a favor, and get it properly diagnosed and treated!

OMG,DON'T put motor oil on them! You will just make them sick! Go to your vet and get some Interceptor. This will kill the mange mites, but they will probably ask you to bring the puppies in for a skin scraping to make sure what kind of mange it is and to wiegh them.If it's sarcoptic mange, you can catch it,too. It's the same mite that causes scabies. You really should call a vet,or your local Humane Society or ASPCA,they might be able to help you.

You should really see a vet.. Neither of those two things will work to get rid of mange.. Some sick old wives tale that never worked and motor oil is dangerous.. You should use your head and see the vet and get the mange treated properly.

I had a dog that I had to let stay at my moms' who lives in a house with a yard, I live in a condo.

She has fleas in the neighborhood, all I did was bathe my dog every couple of days, kept some really good sensitive skin lotion on him. And, you might really try some orajel for the itching. Kills the itch right away. Just keep appling.

When they are not scratching you can see the skin heal quickly.

Good luck..

for real, take your dog to the vet...

if you can't afford it you shouldn't have the dog in the first place.
