If you have to think that hard about it, you're not surgeon material.

Surgeons are all about DOING. If you're a thinker, you need to look into internal medicine.

Also, if you're not at least in your third year of medical school, thinking about a specialty is meaningless. You have no clue what any of it entails until you're actually DOING it.

Pros:
You get to see with your own eyes what is wrong with your patient and get to fix it with your own hands.
You know you either saved the patient or helped the patient or hurt the patient or killed the patient. You don't have to wonder.
You generally get paid a little more than the janitor per hour.
Cons:
You spend so little time with your family that they either give up on you or walk out on you.

I love that answer Pangolin.

Surgeons want to do something about an issue right now. They get paid to do procedures.

Internal medicine doctors like to take care of sick people and think. They get paid for how much they think.
