by 18 months a child should be walking and it is something they learn to do themselves by pulling up on furniture and taking steps. You can help them learn with exercises and walking with them holding their hands but they can learn to walk without doing any of that if they get floor time and something to pullup with.

Parents give themselves far too much credit. Its not like just because they "taught" the kid how to walk its walk in now, kids teach themselves to walk, parents just help out, smile, take pictures, and of course take all the credit. Toddlers learn to walk because they see everyone else walking and they attempt the same thing. It really is monkey see, monkey do. Of course they fall, and parents pick them up, and do all the parenting stuff after reading every parenting book on the planet. But even if a parent weren't teaching them how to walk, eventually they would manage to do so on their own, although it may take a little longer.
If parents were the ones to teach infants how to walk, who taught the first parent how to walk ehh? Aye, now we're thinking about it.

They'll learn to walk by themselves but parents are happy to encourage & help. Children raised by wolves, away from people, will only go on all fours. There was a case in Russia or one of its former republics where a child was raised by a pack of dogs, & although in a city, this one also only went on all fours. The cases of wolf-children are many, & some have good scientific documentation. There was a show about this on Discovery or Learning Channel last year.

No, lol toddlers, teach themselves how to walk. well about 80% if they have other people walking or children walking around them they tend to pick it up pretty easy. Now if a toddler has never been near someone that walks, like someone in a wheel chair, or stuck in the forsest {lol} It will take them longer to learn, if they learn at all.

toddlers arent taught once the learn how to stand it is there time to walk and they will learn on their own if no one teaches them. but that is the most fun for the child and parent is when they learn to walk. not so fun after that is they are are into everything and anything, but the learning experience is worth it all in the end. so if the parents are willing to teach the child how to walk dont worry the child will learn on his or her own...

I suspect walking is part of human instinct. As long as they see other people walking, and especially if they see other kids walking, they will try and copy it. And they will eventually succeed.
But "teaching" a toddler to walk is part of parent-child bonding time. The kid won't remember, but most parents will get teary-eyed when they remember their wittle-baby who is now all grown up and walking down the aisle (graduation, wedding).

A toddler does not have to be taught how to walk. They are smarter than we give them credit for and will learn on their own, in their own time.

They will teach themselves how to walk. All babies do, they just have some caching. So if nobody spends time with the toddler coaching them to learn how to walk, then they will still learn. It just might take longer.

We spend the first two years of a childs life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next sixteen years telling them to sit down and shut up!
