I fell down the stairs and tried to catch myself thus pulling some muscles in my back. My upper back feels like someone is sitting behind me stabbing knives into it. Then the muscles in my chest start bothering me... defiantly not heart related! I just want some relief any ideas? Oh and I am already taking Motrin 800 for it and it don't help.

Oh I have a Dr appointment scheduled for the 10th of next month... If you want to call it that I am a military Dependant. They say I don't require emergent care.

Pay no attention to eb_guy. It's obvious that he has never been treated for back pain by a military doc!! Well I have, several times as a matter of fact. (That's why I sued them!)
You have my sympathy. I hope you now receive care in the civilian sector! They do here in NC anyway. Back to the question. Bedrest and muscle relaxants are what you need to add to that Motrin. The muscle relaxant is prescription so you will have to hit a doc up for that. Military docs didn't mind that when I was seeing them, just tell them to make a good one to stop the cramping. Might take as much as 2 weeks max. for the healing so have patience. Just remember if it hurts, don't do it! Heating pad will help promote healing as it improves the blood flow. Be good, behave if possible, and stay away from the stairs for awhile. ;-)

I have always skipped military doctors, they have a hoe to grind and then skip out. I have always chosen to see a private doctor.
It sounds like you may have more then muscle problems. You could have a ruptured disc or some disc problems.
Ice packs may help for now until you decide what to do. It's going to take time, a lot of time, I've been there.
First X-Rays, then MRI's the waiting for a military hospital or when there's room. Then they're not going to rush you into anything. you'll wait and wait, in pain.
I would see a private doctor first, then an orthopedic surgeon. I would almost bet on surgery for a ruptured disc.

Sometimes an ice pack can help to temporarily lessen the pain of pulled muscles or muscles in spasm (for example, long enough to get to sleep).
You don't need X-rays for something like that - it's better to avoid ionizing rays unless absolutely necessary.

The ibuprofen stops the suffering, the progesterone fixes the drawback for the following time round, for me a minimum of.
