Yes! Kia's bankruptcy in 1997 resulted in the company being acquired in 1998 by South Korean rival Hyundai Motor Company.

Kia Motors America is the United States subsidiary of the Kia Motors company, itself part of the Hyundai Motor Group.

Kia and Hyundai are both headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. Kia is the second largest automobile manufacturer after Hyundai. They are 2 separate companies, but Hyundai has a 32.8% stock ownership of Kia. This is similar to what Ford did with Mazda a few years back. They have a majority stake and can influence what path the company takes, but they are still 2 separate companies.
