Futures_Inc: is it your position then that it should be believed because it has been believed before?

I disagree with it because up until the 17th century, no one doubted Moses wrote the first 5 books.

It is pretty easy to try and punch holes in something a few thousand years old.

Up until the 17th century people never doubted Jesus had lived either.

I have a comment for the person that said chronologically, Genesis would be last....... How can any book that starts, "In the beginning.." be last?

I have a host of very good reasons for disagreeing with such revisionist nonsense.

Modern "scholars" (and I use the term with serious reservations) have nothing but their collective opinions to back up their claims .... while the authentic church has always known the truth from the beginning.

And early scholarship was not only more reliable and thorough, but had the advantages of working with original documents that no longer even exist in today's world.

Although Jewish tradition claims that Moses is the author, there is no firm evidence of this. On the other hand, JEDP theory is flawed (in many significant ways). JEDP is primarily a useful tool for categorizing sections of the Pentateuch (*very* roughly, by time period), not for determining its author. JEDP also obviously falls short with Job - in other words, even the author of Job recognized the JEDP thing (and wrote accordingly).

No, but in my theology class I was taught that they weren't written in order. In fact my professor said that if you put them in chronological order from the date they were written Genesis would be last.

... As I stated earlier this is what I was taught in theology class at a Catholic college by a priest. I never said that it made sense to me.

There is nothing in HISTORY to even prove such a person EXISTED, much less wrote ANYTHING.
