I am 17, no income, I have New York State Benefit ID card(medicaid i think) and Health plan of New York card(HIP). I want to go to the demetologist to get rid of a scar on my face. How much would it cost or will it be free? Any good demetologists in NY? Thanks.

You need to check the specifics of your health plan. Many cases, you need to go to a doctor approved by the plan, who can then refer you to a specialist who is also in the plan. In some cases, they do require payment if the procedure is elective, such as scar removal, rather than required.

As long as you see a dermatologist that participates in HIP Medicaid (you need to ask them for that specifically!!) then it should be, as long as the procedure is a covered benefit. (As someone else mentioned, things like scar removal or laser hair removal are not covered - then you have to pay for them because they won't accept your insurance.) BUT you'll need a referral from your primary doctor, so make an appointment with your PCP now. (Some PCPs can treat dermatological ailments - like acne, and some insurance companies want to know you've tried that route before you go running to a specalist.)
