Then they weren't really atheists, just agnostics putting on airs. A true atheist has no supernatural beliefs, so that pretty much rules out any "spiritual" discussions.

depends on the atheist and their philosophy. The early greek definition of atheist, they were basically people that had no set doctrine or philosophy that paralled any religion, so an atheist could have a god form. Its not really until the later part of the 19th century, the christians modified the definition to only be those that had NO god.

Contrary to Christian propaganda, most atheists are quite well read on various scripture and the histories of the various religions.

Some come to message boards like this to simply share what they have seen and experienced within their lives.

Some atheists just come in to give back the 'LOVE' that they have been given. "Jesus's" second commandment...love others as you yourself would want to be loved.

Then there are those that simply come to rib those that bank their souls on the BIG Spagetti Monster in the Sky.

One thing to keep in mind though is that atheists are individualistic with their philosophy. In reality, you really cannot lump em all together as the Christian Propaganda likes to spew.

Look up "spiritual atheists" on Google. There is a wide range of belief systems out there, and it isn't always an either-or thing. Some atheists are strongly against any form of religion or spiritual notions, others denigrate religion but accept a spiritual side of existence. Buddhism is an atheistic religion. Agnostics simply acknowledge that there is no way of knowing whether or not there is a god.

I am an Atheist but I am a spiritual person too. I meditate and practice relaxation/visualization. I believe that the mind and the body are one. I believe in a ''relationship'' with nature. I suppose that this is the definition of Natural Spirituality. I have not read about it in depth.
I don't know what there is about humans that make them so different from other animals. I do not believe in a soul. The word soul in the bible is a mistranslation. I know that we are energy. I also know of too many incidences that have happened to myself and friends after a loved ones death. I do not believe in heaven or hell. I also am open minded enough to realize that there may be properties that are not tangible and are unknown or not understood. I am not very good at expressing my views on this.

Oh Hellz no....it doesn't contradict my beliefs, Atheism is a non-belief in a GOD...and you don't need a frickin' GOD to be spiritual my friend. Buddhist are spiritual people, yet are atheistic, I'm an Atheist, yet I'm spiritual, I'm not agnostic putting on fancy airs or whatever. I don't believe in a God but I believe in various things that I'm not gonna go into here. As I said, all you need to be for an Atheist is a non-belief in any god, other than that you can be anything and everything you frickin' want. Hope I helped clear up the bashing-like ignorance on this question.

Kid, the word you looking for is A.T.H.E.I.S.T.
It's exactly the same as 'theist' with an 'A' in front of it - it's not difficult.

Atheists do not believe in gods.
That's it.
We don't believe in Allah, Zeus or Thor or any one or more of a few thousand other gods I can't be bothered trying to recall.

So far as "spitituality" goes - I'm not even gonna try to guess what's in the 'mind' of a fundie.

I do not believe in a god or gods-- therefore by definition I am an Atheist.

I do believe in life after death-- therefore, I am spiritual.

So, spirituality without religion or a God.

Because...like with so many other words...there are many meanings of spirituality. I believe in the spirituality of working on your inner person. Working on your morals and ethics. Improving your human nature, increasing your awareness of your SELF, making sense of situations, deriving a purpose in life, and enhancing your sense of underlying worth.

atheist

Because it's in human nature to seek and take pleasure in transcendent moments. Atheists get them from philosophy, art, music, literature, humanism, the awesome spectrum of nature and the universe and every form of genuine human love.
