Went to a movie tonight on Post. When the National Anthem started the woman behind me didn't have the decency to stand up. Fine; don't stand. It's rude; but I can at least ignore that much. However, she started talking loud enough to be disturbing. That I had trouble ignoring; so I turned around and said; "Ssshhh...". At which point her husband walks in and she whines to him that I "Shhed her". So, what is his very muture response? To throw candy at me and my children. Nice! So, I tell them that's enough or I'm going to have them removed from the theaters. I'm livid! I think it's highly disrespectful not to stand during the National Anthem; but then to talk all through it?! They had no idea who was sitting in that theater...we're on a Military Post for crying out loud! There are a lot of widows that still live on Post; how disrespectful to them and those their husband's served with! How can you be in the Military and be that rude and disrespectful to your fellow soldiers?

Motpicvideo: No, I didn't have them removed; they got the point and settled down. But, I was still really angry. That was garbage.

Sugarbear: That was uncalled for. My husband just happens to be in the Army and he would NEVER dream of being that disrespectful. Neither wouldn anyone else I know in the Army. It was one couple. No need to paint the entire Army with a big, black brush over it.

I'm on your side, definitely. I'm not in the military, but it happens even off-Post.

Common courtesy is disappearing. It bugs me that crowds of sports fans all start cheering before the last line of the National Anthem is even half-finished. Or that some businesses don't take their flags down at night or in the rain.

My wife and I always stand for the color guard that leads off every parade through town; and we applaud the armed services members who march in the parade.

So did you have them removed?? :-)

Wow! I would have marched right out, flagged down the manager, got him to summon the MPs and had both of them hauled off the post. I would also have made sure the MPs referred the matter to the man's C.O. That's assuming he was in the military and she was his wife. But, he could just have been some sad-sack civiian "escorting" some Army wife whose husband was deployed. If he was military he needs a "wood shed call" on Article 134. If he's not he needs to be barred from the post.
I had a guy 86'd from our minor league park because he was on his cell phone during the playing of the National Anthem.

Hi April, I'm a Army Vet. I had a similar situation with a puke that didn't remove his hat during the anthem, of course I handled it a little differently, I convince the guy that it was a good idea to remove his hat and he did. He must have been bored with the game and left at the top of the 2nd...

It sad that you had to put up with that woman, obviously she must have been raised by freakin wolves or something. You did good Ma'am. You are a fine and decent American Patriot and thank your Hubby for his service.

Times must have changed. When I was active duty, everyone in a base theatre had to stand for the National Anthem. During morning and evening colors, even motor traffic was required to stop.

If this woman doesn't want to stand for the Anthem, what is she doing a military base? Sounds like your base needs some more discipline.

Hi, I'm in the military, and I totally agree with you. I've just come to accept the fact that people like that are nothing but trash, and will always be trash. If they went on post to see a movie, they should have stood up, its a traditon on post movie theatres to do that. I can't believe her husband did that, how immature could he be? You had alot more restraint than I would have, so good job on that. I wouldn't worry about it though, they are losers. Have a good day!

They absolutely have that right to not stand or even to talk through it.

I'm a democrat. It's my job to fight for that right, as much as I think their behavior was atrocious and worthy of contempt.

They also assaulted you and your neighbors probably noticed it. You would have done EVERYONE they will ever meet a favor if you had had them removed. Your neighbors would probably have cheered. I would have.

They have free speech. I'm an old-style democrat, not a liberal, not a socialists.

You have free speech. I'm REAL glad you answered them.

Thank you.

Courtesy is not dead. It is considered courteous for a host to be very brusque and kick someone out who is being rude to the rest of their guests.

Political correctness, being tolerant?

No, thank you.

when my hub was in the military....if you did not stand during the national anthem...the MP's would escort you out...and the military person...in this case my husband...could be court marshaled...is that what is called? what i mean to say is busted. lose rank...and of course income... remember it has been a while...well over 30 years...knockin' at 40...

i don't recall anyone ever escorted out of the post theater. I know it never entered my mind not to stand....and i don't understand anyone...no matter where they are...not standing for our anthem....out of respect for our country..and the men/women who gave their lives for our freedom....

if you don't stand...you should be ashamed of yourself...and dammit! men...take your hats off!

i just don't understand what happened to respect in this country! for this country!

Patriotism is not a bad thing...NOT! Patriotism is the force that defeated england to become a free nation...and it was the drive in WWI and WWII that kept us from being annexed by Japan-Germany-Italy....lack of it..lack of support korea a tie, vietnam a shambles and threatens the sanctity of our country today...

i know..i know...liberal instructors in our universities tell us that any "ism" is bad...because it leads to war...

well sometimes....war has to be fought....to maintain the many freedoms we all enjoy in this country....

stand up next time you hear the national anthem...take your hat off.....put your hand over your heart...and remember the many who gave their lives for you....the families who sacrificed...remember them...honor them....

and if you notice someone not standing....shame on them!

OOOOHHHH MMMYYY GGGOOOSSSHHH.. you cannot be serious.. ON POST?! HOLY CRAP! You have more patients than i do.. i probably would have punched her in the mouth for talking through it! I dont care.. give me an article 15 for DEFENDING MY COUNTRY! I cant believe her... You were totally in the right for that. If you were in a civilian theater.. i'd just ignore the whole thing.. but on a MILITARY INSTALATION.. disrespecting our country like that.. correct me if i'm wrong.. but i do believe that's somewhat treason..
