For those of you who believe in saints what that entails is that when a person dies who everyone thinks will become a saint... their body supposedly does not decompose and rot like everyone else. Supposedly their body has different characteristics and the way i understand the procedure is that when someone dies like mother teresa they wait a while and then dig up the body to see if it passes the test. the trouble is as with all religious beliefs that there are no witnesses around to verify the results of this

As people have said, not all saints have had incorruptible bodies; nor is it the only test of sainthood. Most saints decompose like everyone else. Also, I'd like to note that the Catholic Church doesn't "create" saints; it merely acknowledges them. People they declare saints are people who have led truly holy lives, are worthy of being role models, and who we can be certain are in heaven. There are many more saints who have not been acknowledged but are still in heaven.

Recently canonized saints include Saint Alphonsa Muttathupadathu (the first native-born Indian saint), Saint Antonio de Sant'anna Galvao (the first native-born Brazilian saint), and Saint Gorg Preca (the first native-born Maltese saint). All were canonized just this year.

That's not the only test. They do so many and that's why it takes so many years to name a Saint. After John Paull II died, many miracles have been performed to those who prayed through him. Also Martyrs can be considered Saints, as well. It depends a lot on why the person was named a Saint. Not every Saint will have the whole "body not decomposed" situation.

Not all saints are incorruptibles. Many people who have been canonized as saints had bodies that decomposed. Also, that is not the only test for sainthood.

There are a number of incorruptible saints whose bodies are on display today, the most famous of which is St. Bernadette.

Unfortunately for Catholics the Bible refers to all believers as saints. There are no "qualifications" such as you describe. Anyone who expresses faith in Jesus Christ and receives is free gift of eternal life is a saint.

So I'm a saint. I guarantee you I will decompose -- everyone does.

I has just been discovered that she had a number of doubts that there really is a man living in a cloud, so her sainthood may be revoked.
