Go to www.dfps.state.tx.us and follow the links to childcare licensing. Then follow the links to search for childcare. Put in your zip code to search. Once you get the listing, go through and read up on what kinds of licensing violations the centers have been cited for - lots of violations, especially pertaining to yelling at kids, threatenting kids, abusing kids - stay away from those. Very few to no violations, mostly pertaining to not having a piece of paperwork in a child's file, then the center is worth calling to get more information.

I am a preschool teacher at a NAEYC accredited center in California. I would recommend looking into the accredited center in your area:

The Children's Courtyard
1505 West Arkansas Lane
Arlington, TX 76013
County: NA
Phone: 817 861-9712
Program ID Number: 281113
Email: arkansas@childrenscourtyard.com

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) holds very high standards for their centers! I would say talk to the people at the center, spend time there, then determine if this is the place you want your child.

Call your local elementary school, social service agencies, and churches and ask them for the names and phone numbers of good programs in your area. Then contact those programs yourself. Go visit them. Observe a class in progress. Ask what license they have and sort of credentials their teachers have. Trust your instincts when you visit and observe interactions between staff and children.
