Times are very different - I think that things were easier and more free then. You have a lot more challenges to face at a younger age today - I know that I enjoy reminiscing. It was a much simpler time with fewer fears.
As for how she is relating to you, maybe she is afraid that you are wasting opportunities by just hanging out. I can guarantee that another reason she is pushing you toward activities is to try to keep you out of trouble. It is proven that kids who stay busier are much less likely to cause trouble or become a victim of those who are causing it. There are so many things you can do to become smarter, more worldly and more interesting - take advantage of them. Walking around with your friends won't do any of these things for you.
And, I resent the fact that you imply that there is something wrong with your mother because she likes to discuss her memories. You need to understand that the world does not entirely revolve around people your age. Although the people your age are the future of this world, you guys aren't the ones changing it or making the difference just yet. Right now the decisions you make will determine just how big of an individual impact you'll make - use the time wisely. And, your mother has been around a lot longer than you. You could learn a lot from her if you listen.

I don't the answer to that, maybe because the kids today are different to her, maybe remind her that this is a different generation, but what you and your friends do really isn't much different. It is a scary world today and kids have many more options to choose from for their visiting. My mom was like that, I wanted to move out at 18 and live with 2 of my best friends in an apartment, work and go to college. Her response was no, the world is 2 bad. (this was 1975) Then I hear how fun it was to live with her best friend in an apartment .(this 1950s') They even had a drunk man harass them, but her dad dealt with him. So now you tell me why.???

Oh, she probably thinks she is joining in the conversation. Things change with every generation. Try to be nice about it but maybe you should ask her not to tell your friends about her childhood unless it is a good funny story.

She was just trying to let you see how it was before for you to compare. Pick up her good points, never mind way of blah blah blah. Later in your life you will know what point your mum is talking about, soon you'll understand!

The stories you think are boring now you'll be treasuring when you're older. Life is so short.

Please take it from the parent of a teenager. You don't realize how fast time goes until you get to be your mom's age.

Times are very different now. Maybe she is doing it because she likes being reminded of her younger days. You can't blame her for that.

She thinks she has the perfect childhood.
She wants you to have the same wonderful experience like what she had when she was young.

Emphasize to her, like what you said, times are different now. People are now going into space.

Because watching you grow up has made her nostalgic & miss the days when her life was carefree & she didn't have any worrys or bills to pay.
