I lived my life until about 25 believing in God. The questioning took me in the other direction. I've already considered the alternative, and although I can say that if someone presented me with evidence that there were an afterlife, I would listen and evaluate it, so far nothing I've ever seen (and I pay attention) has the barest sliver of a foundation.

i am not atheists but i would like to send a message to all the atheists out there. i have met a lot of ur type and yes that WAS a stereotype and most of ur TYPE that i have met believe when u die u will be reincarnated into a tree? no 1st off why exactly is that:? second off (i have always wanted to say this)
i hope when u die u do become a tree and one day u will be out in a forest somewhere beautiful with ur leaves open getting some sun and then a big sweaty lumber jack comes and cuts you down - drags you threw a forest - puts you in a truck - brings you to a factory - turns you into paper.............and prints the bible on you
okay maybe ur all right - maybe there is no God - and when u die whatever happens - happens - but what if ur wrong - ever think of that - what will happen to you when u die if there is a God and u never once belived - think about the greater odds -
what more proof do you need? look around he is in the air - in the ground ou walk on - he is in you -
you want proof - read the bible - just read it - how many phrophosies have came true?
do you know that scientist can go forward in backwards in time using the position of the stars and i found an article about this one time they went back to b.c times and could not find one 24 hour time period and one 1 hour time period. 2 whole time periods just not there as if the world stopped for however long and one of the scientist belived in God and brought his bible to them and showed them in the bible where God stopped time once for 24 hours and once for 1 hour - look it up there is a article about it - i am sure u can google it.
look at ur life style - do u as an atheist or as a person have a lot of morals? or daily routines - always trying to find ur self - or discover a new look or something feels missing in ur life - that is because u don't have God - and i promise that emptyness that u try to fill with routine or morals or whatever - will NEVER be filled unless u take God in ur heart
the world is ending soon - for in the bible it states that the generation born in 1946 will live to see God coming again - so everyone born in 1946 is 61 - how long do people live AT THE MOST? 90 - 100 - 103 - any time from now to then will be the end and if ur not ready by that time............
God have mercy on your souls - cause the devil won't

Questions like yours were programmed into our xtian lesson plans. Without the xtian training, worrying about life beyond Earth just doesn't come up that often.
It was like becoming an atheist calmed me down. I stopped having so much spiritual angst. I stopped having the paranoid suspicion that there were invisible demons flying around my head making me do bad stuff.
If I were to share my concerns with a Christian, I would have to be feeling pretty masochistic. The answer to every problem is pray about it, right? Why would I need to go through an xtian when they're all trained to give exactly the same answer, over and over again?
"My wife left me. What should I do?"
"I lost my job, where can I find one?"
"I have cancer and I'm dying."
Answer: "Pray about it." Or here's a different answer: "Let's pray together." Or what about this oldie, but goodie, "Let's form a prayer group."

I've seriously questioned religious beliefs for 25 years.
There are no straight factual answers, only such nonsensical babblings like "god works in mysterious ways"]
I have found out that there is no god, and I'm dead serious about it. At the same time, absolutely happy to be free from the shackles of religion.
Have you ever wondered why atheists are able to answer all religious questions so well?....they understand your storybook tales much more than you do.

Like most atheist, I started out in a Christian family. I eventually came to atheism through rationalization and embracing the world I see around me because it was all I could detect. This was not easy after a lifeime of believing that I was so special that god himself took the time to create me and lay out a purpose to my life.
With that said, there is a certain security that comes with religion. I believe that humans are predisposed to this security and this is why the vast majority of people throughout all of human history have conjured up these delusions of granduer that is religion. I'd be lying to claim that I am 100% immune from it. I wouldn't go as far as to say that I struggle with coping with atheism but there are sometimes when I wish I had the comfort that religion offers me. Alas, I cannot and do not want to convince myself of something that I just don't believe.

I was a spiritual seeker for decades before I finally realized that God is imaginary. I've read about and discussed all aspects of belief and doubt with numerous people throughout the years. In the final analysis, atheism and a naturalistic world view make the most sense to me. If I learn something new tomorrow that changes my perspective, so be it.
I'm always questioning and trying to learn new things.

Yes, I have. But no matter whether there is an afterlife or not, you should enjoy life as you live it and try to live as a moral person. A reasonable God would accept that. However, when I really look at the world, I decide that there is no evidence for God or an afterlife. Still, the world would be a better place if more people chose to be moral.

Sure, until I was twelve I was a very serious Catholic. When I lost faith in that, I became a very serious Bible Christian.
That lasted until I was 14. At that point, I stopped believing in fairy tales.
And that was decades ago. Since 14, I've never had a moment's doubt. Religion is a tool used to control people, by governments and by religious leaders. That's it.
I believe in a government of laws agreed on by the governed, not forced on us because some nutball says his god told him that the rest of us should follow what he says are his god's rules.

What I find most interesting about Athiests is that almost all of them have questioned their belief at one point or another. Most Athiest are not taught by their parents or anyone else to be Athiest ... it is a conclusion that they come to on their own. Many of them eve grow up in Christian families. I find that Athiest are almost always intelligent and affluent people who have come to a determination.
Conversely, what I also find most interesting about Christians is that they rarely are open to the possiblity that their faith is wrong .. more curiously .. they even believe that followers of other religions, which may also worship God, are wrong regardless of the fact that their is no concrete proof that any religion Athiest or not is 100% correct.
Most importantly a common misconception of Christians is that Athiest are hostile toward religious people .. the truth is quite the opposite .. Athiest are not hostile toward anyone .. its the Christians who fear and wish harm to people who do not share their beliefs.

I'm agnostic, but I'm thinking that's close enough.
I've thought about it. I found it unlikely as being dead and being unconscious are pretty much the same thing except one's permanent and the other's temporary. Still, there really isn't a clear way to know what happens after death so I'll always think heaven, reincarnation, etc. are possibilities, so yes, I've questioned all this and I share it all the time on here too.
I'm not one to rush though.
