If they just walk around on the pavement, roll in the grass or dirt, and run around rubbing up against trees, or will they be fine?

YES they can.

Fleas are on the pavement, grass, dirt and I don't now about trees, but why not.

We can even bring them in the house from being outdoors.

There's a season for fleas just like there's a season for ticks. "Flea and Tick Spray."

A long while ago I decided to let my cat (tied up) outdoors just twice and guess what happened, you guess it ... fleas.

I never cleaned my cat and house so fast in my life.

She was a house cat anyway, but from that point on she stayed in the house.

She enjoyed being in the house with us. She also enjoyed looking out the window at the birds pretending to go on the attack. When she tired of that it was nap time. She also enjoyed watching the "chiper's" run back a fourth on the deck.
She always had a front row seat.

When we would have a quest (mouse) in the house, she took care of that problem faster than a "New York Minute." She had a good like and all the entertainment she needed.

She let us go two weeks ago at 25 yrs old. We'll miss her forever, but she left us with fond memories.

Yep, fleas can jump 60 feet and move around the vegetation like crazy, so they only have to be able to see a 'heat source' to jump on, and this includes you. A lot of indoor cats get fleas because they hitch a ride in on their owners shoes.

Treat with Advantage or Frontline during the summer/fall (an individual dose is $10 from a vet, and it lasts a good 2 1/2 months even though the package says one month) and fleas will stay off them.

Hi Jorn...cats can get fleas easily outside as well as inside the home since fleas live not only on animals, but the ground--sand, grass, etc. Fleas jump onto our shoes and clothes and are transported indoors. However, it isn't as much as a problem with cats who are outdoors where fleas can jump onto them from anywhere.

The best way to eliminate flea infestation is to use Advantage, Frontline Plus or Revolution purchased directly from your veterinarian and applied monthly behind the neck of your kitty.

Yes! fleas can be anywhere, grass, dirt trees, shrubs etc... on the beach and sandy areas there are sand fleas, fleas can live and reproduce in most areas and on any animal.. ask the vet for a safe flea and tick protection. Also they can be incontact with a bird or other outside animal that can carry them or a dead animal that it makes contact with.

Cats can and will get fleas just about everywhere...

Fleas jump onto the animals from the ground outside...and they have millions of nest outside too....She will probably get them even worse when she rolls around in the dirt..since dirt or sand is a favorite spot to live for fleas.

Your cat can probably even get them in your home too if you have carpet...since fleas will lay eggs and create nests in the carpet...

The best way to solve this problem is to buy frontline for your cat and apply it to the back of their neck between their shoulder blades and do this every month...This will help keep fleas, ticks, and lice off of your cat and yourself too

They most definately can! Fleas can be anywere. Your cats can also catch some diseases while outside. Be sure they're up to date on their vaccinations before you do so.

My two kittens were found on the side of the road when they were a few weeks old. They had worms, fleas, respiratory problems, and eye mucus. We had a very expensive vet bill to pay and 5 medicines a day to give them. I'd strongly suggest making sure they have their vaccinations before you let them explore.

There are many types of fleas- some do live in soil, so yes, depending on where you live, it is possible for your cat to get fleas if your yard (or pet) has not been treated.
