Since you have really dark hair, you should get it professionally done. For it to look good, you need to bleach the hair before applying a lighter color. Placing the hair dye right on top of black hair withouth bleaching wont do anything. Because of dealing with bleach and such, seek help from those who know how to.

do NOT USE A KIT.....
The first rule of Color: Color does not lift color.Your black hair...that is your NATURAL VIRGIN black Hair......correct?
Use Clairol Premium Professional Hair Color ( local Beauty Supply)
Use 1 Tube of Level 12 ASH ( this will help prevent brassiness) blonde and 40 Volume Developer. The important part?
leaving it on the hair for the full hour.
The best brand......is one of two.....just never EVER use a hair color KIT, those are the kiss of death.....
Either
Wella's Color Charm Line
or
Clairol's new
Professional Premium Line

You need to be reading the series we are going through now - as I try to Teach Home Hair Coloring to the general publiv

I think Loreal is the best. I have used the casting or their other brand Garnier and it's fine.

Get it professionally done. And also if you wanted to do it by yourself you would probably have to bleach your hair first and it could turn out looking weird. (my brother tried doing it himself once)
