i just got a new computer yesterday (august 23 2007) that has windows vista and i wanna make it faster, so how do i make it faster?

Both Microsoft and your computer maker have stuff you don't want running at startup and active all the time. Software you want preloads itself and runs all the time. This is slowing things down.
This annoyance is no worse in Vista than it was in XP, though any OS you install yourself will have less stuff.
Uninstall demos and other stuff you don't want.
For any program that pops up when you start or puts an icon in the tray (lower-right corner of the screen), look at the configuration for options to not load at startup.
Delete things from the startup menu (make sure you understand it before you delete it)
Run msconfig, go to the Startup tab, uncheck things that don't need to be running (again, make sure you understand what it is and why it's running before you uncheck it)
If you really really know what you're doing, disable unnecessary services.

Although I agree with the other answers, I'm getting tired of preaching against Windows Vista and fighting with my computer vendor for sending me a computer with Vista instead of XP like I ordered... (here I go again!!!)
Add memory. It's always the fastest way to improve the performance on your computer.

disable the aero feature, disable some start up items and all visual effects

just between u n me .. VISTA SUX MY LEFT **** .. so if u av it .. dont bother wit it .. jus get rid of it ... then ur computer will run faster lol

If you have less that 1.5 gb of RAM install more RAM.
