God is unknowable except by his own revelation of himself to us. That is why Jesus said we had to 'receive' the Kingdom of heaven like a little child (Matthew 18:1-12). A child who simply knows his father loves him and provides for him, will listen to his father and believe him and do what is asked of him. Furthermore, that father will speak often to such a child.

Children have great intelligence even if their knowledge is limited. Learning about God is not the same as taking in knowledge about God (as a head-trip) which is why Jesus said, 'This means eternal life, their KNOWING [God], and the one whom he sent forth, Jesus Christ.' (Jn 17:3) Being in a relationship with God surpasses all head-knowledge about him for one can have the latter without having the former.

I have to disagree with the premise. We learn the most about God when we seek knowledge the most. For some, they seek knowledge more as they grow, and for some, they seek more knowledge in their earlier times of learning. I've been at a steady sine curve (up and down, up and down). Sometimes there's a lot you learn about God, sometimes you forget things, and sometimes you learn what you already knew.

Because God likes to start with a clean slate and people who are the most teachable! People who "know too much" are usually the ones who feel above others because of their knowledge. Those who know little are willing to learn and they are more humble. We know from the Bible God hates a haughty and unteachable attitude!

Why does an empty cup hold the most water? If i rid myself of preconceptions of what god is, then I am in a better position to find god.

Because we have a teachable spirit. As we learn more and more we must guard this qualilty. We should never come to the place where we think we cannot learn.

The bible says to "not lean on your own understanding". Sometimes when we don't have all the education we are more open to realizing what plan of action we need to take. We can hear God's word for what it is not what we've thought it was for 20 years already.
