The last thing I thought I would miss at boarding school are my parents. I mean I never feel homesick! But honestly right now I WANT MY MOMMY!!!!! I'm about to start crying even though I love the school! I wasn't expecting to feel this way! I can go home on the weekends but not this or the next weekend and I just want to be home right now! Seriously! Really Badly! And my roomate doesn't really speak english and we haven't said a word to each other in the past hour and I really can't start crying even though I'm biting my lip to stop from crying but I don't want to have to explain to her why I'm crying so someone please say something to comfort me!!!! Just something to make me feel better!? I'm so sad.

Well I was fine all day until we had to go to our dorm rooms for the night and my roomate and I arent talking and theres nothing to do online because they blocked all the sites and my friends from home are asleep and so im feeling lonely. I think I might ask my roomate if she felt lonely the first night (becuase she was an international student she got here two days earlier) but im trying to gain the strength to at least say that without crying and then after she replies tell her i do and start crying... but if i stop biting my lip im going to start wailing. I mean my eyes are wattering but shes turned away from me at her computer.

Go ahead and cry then youll at least know how compassionate your roomate is. Maybe it will break the ice. You can find ways to communicate without speaking the language.

It's been 8 years, but I just wanna say taht I'm an international student and miss home so much that I couldn't stop crying during the first week in my boarding school. And the next time I could go home would be in 3 months. Now it's the third week which is a little better, but I still feel bad and not being able to really fit in the new country and culture. Plus I could understand everything in class but not when people are chatting casually after school.uh...I miss home but I mean life goes on...

Awwwww sweetie, I can relate. I recently went on a ten day school trip and cried every night I was that homesick. By about the eighth day I just wanted to go home. I texted and called my parents all the time so try that. Also just keep focused on the fact that in a few weeks you will see tham agin. In the meantime try to enjoy your school and make some friends. When you have people to talk to things don't seem so bad. Hope you feel better soon.

aww, i was in the same place as you. i agree it is hard going away to a school that is different and you don't know anyone. what helped me is i talked to my parents on the phone every single day and when i talked to them i closed my eyes and pretended i was at home talking to them. and for the other times when your not talking to your parents make some new friends, these people will make you feel more at home and more comfortable. at home i always took my family for granted and did not think i would miss them, but truthfully i did! even my annoying little brother!! i bet u have some annoying little siblings that you are happy about leaving. just do me a favor and just smile right now. boarding school is so cool and so much fun u should be lucky you are there!! and about the room mate thing.. try talking to him/her.. i mean maybe he/she does not speak english but there are other ways to communicate like playing a board game or video games. i hope i made u a little bit more happy and if u need to talk anytime, since i have been in the same situation as u (and i finish and survived!! lol) just email me =)

I'm sorry honey. Have you tried to call her? Do you know anyone at this school you could talk to? What about your favorite animal, is he with you? Maybe you just need to go to the ladies room, close the door and have a boo-hoo. Or maybe writing a letter or starting a journal...
Your mom is probably crying too. I know, because my daughter just got home from 4 months in Spain, studying abroad. And we're from Texas. We both cried a lot when she came home.
Have some chocolate--it's the universal comfort food, and know that there are a lot of girls in your dorm feeling just like you. You can meet friends tomorrow, call your mom, and maybe teach your roommate a few English basics (she'll help you on the math, I bet!).
Just hang on, and if you can, it will be much better tomorrow.

Natalie:
I've been through what you're going through, only I was a little older. But the pain was still there.
What I did immediately was to find something to do, to keep me busy. I had just moved into my apartment, so I had things to unpack and set up. So I did just that until I got tired of it, then watched TV until I fell asleep. Next day, I went out to get involved in things of the community. I did use the phone. I did write letters. I didn't have e-mail at that time. So I just kept busy, forcing myself to keep from thinking too much of home. Gradually the intensity went away and I was able to function better. Hope this helps.

I know exactly how you feel. I guess the good news is that this feeling will go away. you'll adjust and gradually miss home less and less. Why don't you call your mom and dad or send them an e-mail? Is there a school counselor that you can speak to at your school?? They are usually very helpful and may be a supportive outlet for you to vent your feelings. Good luck, it will get better! Hugs!

I used to keep some pictures from home. You might also feel better if you write some letters or emails home. It'll get better as the days go on. Don't worry, what you're feeling is normal.

Hey, take a deep breath, pick up the phone and give your parents a call. Just to hear their voices will help you cope. It's an adjustment that will take time. Once you meet some friends and are busy with your classes and extracurricular things you'll find it'll get easier. I've been there, it's tough, but it's a good lesson to learn as we all grow up.
