He's not ridiculing any of you guys. He's just asking a question. If you dont know why you do things and you just do them, then you're living to die. You're purpose is to die. No, not get up and pay the rent, no, not get the children ready for school, because after that, then what? Death. Plain ole death. Christianity is not condemning you for wanting to live your life, its opening you up to purpose. And not just purpose by your own definition. Purpose by an Almighty Creator who loves and cares for you. We all want to be the boss of our own lives, which is ok at times, but our Heavenly Father knows that as much as we want to be big and bad about ourselves, we still have weak times. We still have weaknesses. The times when your job isn't as fulfilling as u want it to be, or the times when your children are acting up so much, or the times when yes, you do think about death. Just try to soften up your heart a little. No one's trying to bash you, or trying to make you something you're not. No one's even holding a gun to your head saying, "be a Christian." We're just trying to tell you that the benefits of Christianity are so much more fulfilling than any car, house, job, promotion, or anything. You get joy, peace, fulfillment, love that will help you overcome any circumstance you face. And all we're saying is that its by God's grace that we can have those things.

Well I don't know about you religious fruitcakes, but the purpose of my life is to ensure happy, healthy and well adjusted offspring, first and foremost..!
Maybe you and your like minded fruitcake brethren should also consider your childrens future and the world they will inherit from us all, instead of being so preoccupied with selfish thoughts about your own personel "eternal life" and relationship with your imaginary sky fairy..
ALL living creatures purpose in life is to ensure their genes are successfully forwarded onto the next generation. It is here that you can truly live on after you die, through your legacy of successful children and grandchildren.
Isn't that enough without invoking deities and grasping at false promises of eternal life..?
Wake up and smell the coffee, and try to open your other eye for a change..!

This is a drinking question, meaning that it has been asked so many times that it's not funny. Life for me is about living it. If you think that atheists do nothing but party, you know absolutely nothing about atheism. Christians live for death. We live for the time that we have on Earth. We do good works, we get educated, we love, we have families, we enjoy those that we love and we try to make every day count because once we die...and this goes for everyone...that's all there is...yall.

You are asking atheists 'What is the purpose of life?' No doubt that their answers will all be about their own personal purpose of life as apposed to the spirit of your question that I can pick up. What is the purpose of life itself? They will have to deny any purpose to life itself and focus only on their own purpose. I hope all who read these answers can see that atheists must live within a self absorbed world, denying even the existing of anything outside their own feeble grasp.
Good try. But this is the religion and spirituality section. Every time I try to ask a question in here about spirituality I always get zillions of atheists denying the very existence of the thing. It's like trying to talk about experiences piloting an aircraft in the aviation group with all the answers coming back that flight is impossible. Strange isn't it?

Because I don't believe in God, my focus is not narrowed down to the afterlife. I see this as life as my only life, and so it is much more important for me to make the best of it. Religion teaches that this life isn't important, just skid by with a clean record so you can go to the next one. I don't want to waste my life here.
The meaning of life, to me, is to love people, try to do good deeds, and be the best person I can. It's too get a happy, humble existence and to mean something, at least to a couple of people.
I don't need religion to tell me life is worth living. It's beautiful out there, and I feel bad for those who need some sort of fairytale purpose to realize that.

The fact is, I can't imagine believing the things theists believe. I can't imagine going through life not questioning. I think it's intellectually dishonest to believe things simply because I'd like to. I can't imagine not having the pleasure of learning about science, and marveling at how immense the universe is, and all for no reason other than that things exist because they can. I think it's wonderful!
I can't find words to describe how terrible I feel knowing that people today have access to just about everything there is to learn, yet some still hold onto primitive superstition. It makes me want to cry. Especially when children are indoctrinated into religion, and may never free their minds, and may never know what's real because they've been taught to believe that knowledge and questioning are evil.

I think it i s up to each person to find a purpose for their own life. Find what is important to you and do it.
Now, on another matter, what does the Bible tell you the purpose of life is?

What's the purpose of -your- life? I mean yeah, all that stuff about doing God's will, going to heaven, all that, but that's kind of abstract. When you get up in the morning, what's the real, immediate purpose? Get up, go to work, keep the boss happy, make the mortgage payment, keep the house running. Put some money in the bank. Get the kids into college. All that stuff. How is that different for atheists?
We all have free will. The purpose of our lives is up to us! If you're religious you see that as a god-given privilege. If not, well, that's just the way it is. But we agree it's that way, right?

This is turning into a drinking-game question. How often, and in how many forms, can this question be asked?
Life's purpose is whatever you make it. If waking up with your gods makes you happy, fine.
My apostasy doesn't keep me awake.
I tried life with your "loving god'' and nothing changed. I found out I had to work for a living and do things for myself. You can keep your gods, thanks just the same. I'm not going to waste what life I have worrying about some fantasy "afterlife."

Do you honestly believe that people who don't share your beliefs wake up every morning empty and purposeless? And what does partying have to do with atheism - do you think we're a bunch of hedonists too?
Atheists are people not so different than you, they just believe in one less god. They have jobs, families, children, morals, passions and problems like anyone else.
