Catholics have made their own idea that this is right. They Pray to Mary because she is the Son of Jesus, and they respect her. Catolics don't believe it is a sin because of her high power to God.

Catholics worship God! They do not worship any other being as being greater than God. God alone has created us and saved us from sin. He alone is the source of life and love.
Catholics do God honor by glorifying Him through His helpers though. They would not have been able to help in His work but for God's grace in their souls. When we honor the saints, we honor the fact that they so resembled Jesus and followed His teachings, and they gave up much if not all worldly possesions to follow Him. We honor God's power in their souls. And pictures or statues just help remind us of their sacrafices to love God. As for Mary, She gave her only Son so that we miserable sinners could go to heaven. How many of you would do that? Thank you most Holy Mother of God!

Christians should worship God only....not Mary. Perhaps they have not read and understood the Bible. Christians should not pray to any Saints either...just to God. I realize this is a very controversial topic and each person is entitled to their own beliefs. But I believe that all the answers are in the Bible and some religions have made up their own rules and cannot support them biblically.

I just looked at some of the 'catholic' responses. What a bunch of liars. If they do not worship statues of Mary, WHY DO YOU HAVE THEM EVERYWHERE? I've observed a catholic wedding. They STAND AND PRAY IN FRONT OF THE STATUES. Why did they REMOVE the graven images command from THEIR 10 commandments? Are they God?
Catholics, WAKE UP to the REALITY of what you are DOING!

Worshipping Mary or a statue of her would be a sin.
Fortunately Catholics do neither.
+ Mary and the Saints +
Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.
The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.
Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.
As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.
Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.
Asking others to pray for you whether your loved ones on Earth or your loved ones in heaven is always optional.

With love in Christ.
+ Graven Images +
Do you have pictures of your loved ones? Have you ever looked at the picture of someone while talking on the phone to them?
Statues and pictures of people we love are not idols.
Statues and paintings of Jesus and the saints are just like pictures of the people we love and respect.
The King James Version of the Bible states in Exodus 20:4: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"
Why were the Jews commanded not to make graven images? Graven images were the standard method of pagan worship. They were representations of false gods.
This is a very clear command.
However God commanded the Jews in Exodus 25:18 and 1 Chronicles 28:18–19, "And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them"
And in 1 Kings chapter 7 Solomon made bulls and other images out of precious metals.
It seems obvious that the Jews did not worship the cherubims and Solomon did not worship the bulls he had made. These images did not violate the command of God. Therefore, an image not made for worship is acceptable.
In Numbers 21:8-9, "And the LORD said to Moses, "Make a saraph and mount it on a pole, and if anyone who has been bitten looks at it, he will recover." Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole, and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent looked at the bronze serpent, he recovered."
And in John 3:14-15, Jesus says in correlation, "And just as Moses lifted up the [image of a] serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."
How can a statue of our Lord Jesus Christ dead on the cross be considered an idol to a false god? A crucifix is the message of the Gospel without words held up for all to see, a visual reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus, no different from a painting, a play, or a movie.
Catholics do not worship statues but the almighty God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
+ With love in Christ.

Well they say they dont worship her but she helps them get to God and intercede for them. Actually Mary was a substitution for the early Goddess figures that many of the early pagan converts still wanted to worship. The Saints in catholicism also were substitutes for local pagan gods

Catholics do not idolize the Holy Mary, they pray to her, just like praying to the Saints and Angels. Just as there are followers/people of service of God on earth, there are helpers who dedicated their lives to God that are in the after world as well.

Yeah thats why im christian. I dont believe in worshipping the statue of mary. But of course i think idols stand for anything in your life that comes above god. Not really praying to the statue of mary. Now if they believe the statue is above god than yeah, its idol worship.

I'm not Catholic and don't believe in it, but I'm smart enough to know they don't worship Mary.
define worship...I know they pray to her, but I don't think that qualifies as worship.

They don't see it that way.
Let's see....
kneel down in front of a statue.....
kiss the statue.......
pray to a dead woman that is represented by the statue.....
ooooops, looks like idol worship to me.
if it isn't worship, then what is it?
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (Exo 20:4-6)
