Is there a highway code for them to follow and abide to, as we have in the UK?? A vehicle can be a "killing machine" so needs are such that drivers need to be aware of this fact. Also what is the legal driving age in this country?

When I was stationed in Bangkok back in the 60's we swore that the Thai drivers were all trained by Japanese Kamikaze Pilots. You probably haven't seen the worst ones though, attrition killed them off years ago.

I lived in China and driving habits varied from city to city, one part of the country to the other. The scariest were in Northern China, they didnt scare me, I thought it was very entertaining but I know others who were scared to death to drive with them. The majority were pretty good, drove reasonably and all but when you are taking a taxi on a 30 minute trip home from one burb to another - Oh mother did we fly :-)

IF the idiots covering their eyes and screaming had bothered to observe the SKILL of the drivers and not just the speed they would have realized these are VERY skilled drivers indeed. Razor sharp reflexes - we missed getting into an accident one night, not our drivers fault and I still cant quite figure out how he avoided that - it involved swerving off the highway and back on again and some other fancy maneuvers. And of course we yelled "ni kai hao! Shifu !" Dont know if I spelled that right - very impressive though

Driving on the sidewalks took a little getting used to, but we saw very very few accidents, and it we did it was almost a bus that hit a truck. Dont be such a chicken !!

No racism here, I love Asians and was married to a Thai woman for 26 years. When I was there from 73 to 76, traffic control signs were a suggestion, me first seemed to be the predominate attitude and the philosophy of Buddha looks out for me so I don't have to worry was the norm. No road rage though, smiles and apologies after any accident.
