I have to agree that the laws are stupid, most people consider you an adult at the age of 18. You can die for our country but can't enjoy a beer after battle.

Either lower the drinking age or raise the "I'm an adult" age to 21.
and raise the age to be in the military to 21.

I would go for option one though lower the drinking age to compensate for what the country expects from you.

Here's a good valid point for those who are actually in the military, not the i could if i wanted to and not join the military people. My friend served our country in Iraq was injured in the line on duty and honorably discharged and now is a permanent partially disabled veteran who received a purple heart. He visited home when he was on leave waiting for a discharge and was arrested for underage drinking. A 20 year old disabled veteran arrested for drinking come on. But those or you who dont join the millitary thats not an excuse for you to drink just wait the 3 extra years like everyone else.

I first heard this question when I was about 17. ( 37 years ago) So it's not new. The difference, in my opinion, of then and now is then you could be drafted at 18 and now it is voluntary.

You choose to join the military so the argument is valid for those who are underage AND in the military. Anyone else wants to drink that bad will find it, get drunk and possibly killed anyway and that's got nothing to do with" dieing for your country".

Yeah, I complained about it too and then, you couldn't vote either.

And as far as getting discounts and freebies for the older folks, there'll be plenty of you there to get them also when the time comes.

Clearly the US state and federal government have their priorities wrong.

Yes, you can die in the military at 18.
No, you have to wait to drink at 18.
Logical? NO!

Its bad enough senior citizens get discounts and everyone else do not.

This year its 21 in 5 years it'll be 18 again.

Ask Mothers Against Drunk Driving, who pushed through the alcohol laws. The short answer is that in general our young people have historically shown greater responsibility with machine guns than with beer and cars. But you have a point. Years ago, you couldn't have voted, either:

You're old enough to kill
But not for voting.
You don't believe in war
But what's that gun you're toting.
