it's just insane that there are so many weight classes in boxing - like who cares who the Cruiserweight champion is? right? - don't yall think it would be better to have less weight classes like
light flyweight
flyweight
lightweight
welterweight
middleweight
light heavyweight
heavyweight

and that's it.

Well weight divisions are like products to sell. They bring in more money.

Originally boxing only had a few weight divisions, then it grew and had the fan base to create more and more divisions and champions for the fans. The more money the better and they have the market to do it.

If you don't have the market you just dilute your sales in other areas and lose business.

For example if you look at kickboxing and even moreso MMA, they don't have the same level boxing capital, so they still have only a few weight divisions to sell yet. Boxing can handle having most of its divisions.

Cruiserweights main problem it is too close to the biggest product, the heavyweight division, which is what always killed its sales.

When I was young, I always thought there was only 3, light weight, middleweight, and heavyweight. But then I got to realize that if there were only 3 weight classes, then many boxers will be overweight. And with more weight classes, there are more champions, more fights, and more money.

Greed. The in-between weight divisions are the direct result of the Alphabet Bandits hunting for sanctioning fees for their so-called "champions." The more weight classes, the more fees they collect.

There should only be eight or nine divisions in my opinion. It would instantly create better and more interesting matchups.

When there were only 8 divisions some had too much spread in their weights, but now there are too many divisions and too many different organizations. It has gotten out of control and the reason behind most things is money.

Heavyweight
Cruiserweight
Lightheavyweight
Middleweight
Welterweight
Lightweight
Featherweight
Bantamweight
Flyweight
Strawweight
