Some Wiccans will use "spirit boards" as part of their rituals or seances. It's not much of a show. Just move the little arrow around the board with your hand and pretend it's magic. Not very useful for acquiring information.
OK, first, read about the lives of famous occultists:
http://usminc.org/famous.html
Then decide if it's worth persuing. If you want to wind up broke and forgotten, go for it!
If there is any truth to the old saying "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.", that truth is found in the occult, and Wicca in particular. Silver Ravenwolf has written close to a dozen books on the subject of "The Craft", and claims she has been studying it since about 1969, which is almost as long as I’ve been alive. She has written a book on how to cast money spells, and includes a chapter on how to do so in her Teen Witch book. But the thing is, she doesn't particularly sound all that prosperous herself. Ravenwolf writes,
"For years I couldn't afford to go to a hair stylist (still can't, it's shop and chop for me). I got pretty good at stying my own hair from looking at magazine pictures" [SOURCE: Teen Witch, Llewellyn Publications, 2003 edition, page 145]
OK, she so rich she can't go to the hairdresser. Hey, get me a copy of that Prosperity Spell book!
Silver Ravenwolf seems to have inadvertently discovered that Wicca makes things worse, but won't ever admit it as such.
In Teen Witch she says
"A lot of people tell me how bad their lives have gotten after casting a spell and tell me they won't do Witchcraft anymore. I tell them their lives would have been much worse for not having cast the spell".
Gee Silver, you would think a lot of people would be saying things like "Hey, Silver Ravenwolf, my life has improved tremendously with Wicca!" if Wicca is as great as they claim. Instead it makes lives much worse, and even Silver Ravenwolf admits she hears this a lot!!!
Why? Because sometimes, things are just as you think they are. Most average people will tell you the occult deals with black magic and demons, and demons are evil beings who wish us harm. This is how it is my friend. The occult is evil, and brings bad happenings into a person's life, and Wicca is an occult religion. When you stop trying to rationalize it with inaccurate data and just use common sense you will realize this. Some occultists are of above average intelligence, and I think part of the problem is they have book smarts but not common sense. There are two forces at work in this universe: the counterfeit and the genuine. Wicca’s source of power is not the genuine. There’s just simply no way Wicca (and thus the copycat Neopagan religions) can be created from the black magic writings of “The Great Beast 666", the bizarre sexual practices of Gardner, the spiritual “guidance” of the Watchers (fallen angels) and still be a source of good!
None of the people who will answer your question can make it work either, Don't delude yourself. It's an incredible waste of time and money, and it's spiritual poison.

My goodness there are alot of closed minds on the internet. Ouija Boards are a form of automatic writing. Not all practitioners have good results with Spirit Boards. Some people believe it's okay to work with Angel Boards but not Ouija Boards - which is silly. The movement on the board is a collection of personal energy between the users, the ability to tap into what Carl Jung calls the collective unconscious - as well as our own subconscious, and there is usually some involvement from our own ancestors and spirit guides. If you are not comfortable using one, don't. The tennets of Wicca does not prohibit using any occult tools. If you have fear and still are embracing the dogma of Christianity's fear based religion, then you have not opened your mind fully to your new path. But, bad memories will fade and you can replace them with positive forms of spirituality in time. Until then, I suggest that you set up an ancestor altar and use a pendulum to speak with your recently departed. They are not demons - LOL!! Even if they were in life - hang in there: you'll do fine!!

Well, those Wiccans who are a part of NECTW and many other American groups believe in the following fragment from Gwen Thompson's poem Rede of the Wiccae (often confused with the Wiccan Rede itself.)
"With a fool no season spend, else be counted as his friend."
Also, if you believe in reincarnation, why would this person stick around?

You can use a ouija board as much as you like. Eventually you will find out what demonology is all about. If you want confirmation of this read 'From Witchcraft to Christ' by Doreen Irvine.

Ouija boards are used to contact the murdered, tortured and suicide victims, not the dearly departed relatives or friends. It is possible for the spirit you contact to bring the pain they suffered through with them and people being in agony whilst they are there, it is not a toy. It is not necessary to use one to contact a spirit. As one must be experienced as to not leave the spirit in limbo you must know and understand how to return the spirit from the place it came. If you call them and then don't return them this could result in the spirit becoming lost and agitated resulting in poltergeist activity.

No, it's not wrong, however, without more knowledge, it's best not to try. If you want to try, do it with a fellow Wiccan who has experience in it. You don't want to invite in something or someone you can't get rid of, or you don't want.

it's wrong to be a wiccan and it's wrong to use a ouija board, pick up the bible and read what it has to say on these matters. it warns of the dangers that come from using these things. please stay clear of this, your opening yourself up to satan and dangers that you couldn't imagine.

from my understanding its quite ok.
but make sure to cast a circle well, and use the term "pure heart" when doing so.
its probably safer not to though.
and also I'd say to try to relax, and let things settle first, they will have things to tend to on their own business and such.
and some space between passing and such contact is for your own good too, it ... makes things a little different as far as mourning and moving on from their passing.
