i got a new 5 month old kitten from the pound, he was healthy. got his shots, he's neutered. He was tested for alot of things, they came out negative.
A couple days later, he starts sneezing constantly. I mean like 10 sneezes in a row. then he started coughing horrible. i took it he has an upper respiratory infection.
He was still very playful, he eats, drinks, poop, ect.
We take him to the vet, and he gives me, nose drops & some stuff to put in his mouth, every 12 hours. & i have a checkup again tomorrow.
But the medicine doesnt seem like its working. He only coughs and sneezes, i say once every couple hours.
BUT he has so much stuff coming from his eyes. & when he sleeps and wakes up, his eyes are stuck together. I wash him with a warm towel. but it just comes back a couple min later.
I'm very scared.& now my 3 year old cat is starting to sneeze & have watery eyes. I keeep them serperated .
I just want to know if it is an uri. is this normal?
i cry all the time, i cant lose them

When you go to the vet tomorrow take both cats and have everything checked out. Was your 3 y/o sneezing b4 the kitten came? If not the he brought something. But have both checked out tomorrow. Be sure that you tell the vet everything. I know that it is hard to think of it all when you are there, so print your question from here and take it with you. Good luck.

I had the same issue with one of my kittens when I first got her about 6 or 7 years ago. Listen to the doctor, and give her the medications as necessary. Bring in the cat with your to your next appt. as well, because she should also have herself checked out in case she also has the infection. Also, your cat should be on some kind of antibiotics, which you didn't mention in your post. If she isn't, insist on a course with your vet because she needs them to get over the infection.
Most importantly, do whatever the vet says, keep her nose and eyes clean (you can use a damp and soft washrag to clean and pick it all off), and make sure she is eating, and using the litterbox as normal.
This can be really tough and scary! I know when my little female kitten had her URI and LRI she was sneezing and coughing up blood for days before the antibotics kicked in, and I was afraid I was going to lose her! Good luck to you, and God Bless.

This is VERY normal--a cat cold spreads to every cat in the house within the first week usually. The nose gets clogged and the eyes get ****, but they get better, it won't hurt them enough to require hospitalization.
The actual URI is a virus, which isn't helped by antibiotics, but when the URI gets the secondary infections going, THOSE are treated with antibiotics and that'll clear things up.
Some cats get rid of it on their own in a week, others have it hold on for 3 weeks or so. Unless they're wheezing and having labored breathing, you won't need to do anything other than treat with the drops. It's like a cold in us, this will pass.
Keep the kitten's eyes clear like you're doing, and feed good food, which will help keep his body strong so he can get over the cold.
Welcome to being a cat owner of a new kitten.
(ALL our cats who came from the shelter ended up giving the other cats this same thing, so it's very common).

I have a 4 yr old male cat that gets upper resp. at least 2 or 3 times a year.He was born with them due his mother being a drop off and pregnant so he has a poor immune system. My vet gives me amoxi drops which I get in dry form and add my own water when he gets sick. This way I always have it on hand. When he gets sick like this I usually know in the early stages cuz he sneezes and has a hard time eating dry food. I take away the dry and feed him nothing but canned food. Always plenty of fresh water also. In a few days, he's doing better. Also, this is contagous to other cats. Ground chicken and chicken broth are good also. Like in humans... chicken soup for the cold. It works.

Oh honey :(. Take them to the vet because it could be feline aids which is what my cat has. Only the males can get it. Or it could be leukemia or a respiratory infection. Take them to the vet. Even if they do have it they will be OK. My cat has been living with feline aids for 4 yrs. You just need to feed them right and give them their medicine... keep them healthy and its like there's nothing wrong with them. But GO TO THE VET.

I help with our local feral cat rescue program and your kitties definitely do have an UR infection. You may need to bring them back and have the vet give you something stronger. Try to keep them as warm as you can by placing an heating pad under their sleeping area. You are doing the right thing by cleaning the eyes with a warm towel. Their eyes will ooze for a bit during their recovery period too so don't worry about that just keep them as clean as you can.

That does not sound good at all. I had 2 kitties that I found abandoned and took them home. They had similar problems as your cat and kitty. Ended up that they had feline leukemia. It was awful and I don't want to tell you what it was like. I hope that your cat and kitty get well and get well fast. Have you took them back to the vet? Have you thought about seeing another vet? A second opinion would not hurt especially since your vet was not able to diagnose or treat your kitty. I am sorry.

Take your animals back to the shelter for treatment. My cat came from the vet with rhinovirus (same symptoms as your cat, very contagious) and needed fluids and antibiotics. Its ok to go back and ask for help. You inteded to buy a healthy animal and this is a family member you intend to keep.

Definatley take both cats in to the vet with you. sound like conjectivitis which is a fancy word for a nasty cat cold. They both should be on antibiotics and eye medicine. The eye medicine will be in a little tube and gets rubbed into their eyes. Your babies will be ok...

Sweetie, call your vet and explain to him/her what's going on. It may be that it hasn't been on the medicine long enough. And those things are contagious, just like w/people, so it wouldn't be uncommon for your other cat to get it. He/she would have to be put on med. too. Good luck and it sounds like you're doing everthing right. Just give your vet a call.
