I am currently at a job that I used to love. I've been with it for almost 8 months now, recently got a raise. I enjoy working with most of my co-workers and I do like my supervisor. A couple of items that makes things difficult for me, first my schedule. I'm not full time and I'm not part time. I'm what is called "flex time" where my hours can vary between 30-35 hours and there is no sign of that changing or moving up to another position, which brings to a second problem. Due to recent budget cuts, they have stopped hiring people and stopped promoting people which is what I want to do and have made it clear with my supervisor. I am in a position where a person can move up quickly. My supervisor had the position I had and 10 months later, he was a supervisor but because of money issues, that isn't happening anytime soon and the company opened a customer service center down in Phillipines doing exactly what I am doing but for cheaper. I have enough money in my bank account

::continued:: several thousand so working 10 hour days, 3 days a week and a Saturday doesn't seem that important to me when I'm starting up my own business here soon and have enough money to live on. It doesn't take a whole lot for me to live as I am living where I don't need to pay rent...just my share of the bills and such. Any suggestions?

Okay, first I was not intending to insult anybody with my question. My reason for asking was because of the situation I am in. I am sorry if someone took offense to my question.

I think you have to considered evaluating your job situation, if ever possible you can make it a point to ponder do I really need to have a flex time more than the set regular time set in our country which is mostly 8hrs.
If you are enjoying with your job and you think that you can stay for more years without having the burden of sacrificing it for another job, I think you have to think again of quiting it, because its really hard to find a job these days where everyone is struggling to land on a good job more than the best job they were hoping for.
Finally, if you think ready to quit the job, you have to have a list of the pros and cons of quiting the job. Make a list that will showcase the good things and the bad things that may happened by quiting your job. If the bad or let say the cons are far more than the good or the pros I think you should not quit your job.

It sounds like you have some pretty good relationships where you work, particularly with your current supervisor. Maybe this is a question you should be asking him/her? I am a manager where I work and I would at the very least give you the low-down as yo your future if you asked. Not to mention it shows interest in your own future and your not just showing up for a paycheck. If you do ultimatly decide to walk away you will be respected for it. That goes a long way come "referrence" time.

Your asking this to someone whom has been unemployed for three years now...due to my recent change in attitude, and depression set in, on top of my injured wife who can no longer work, and needs help at home with trying to raise two boy's ages 9 and 13, and you wan't to sit here and talk to me about quitting your job because your not moving up in the world. Friend, I've been moving down three times faster than you could ever move up...If I were you, I'd thank god every day you still have a job period.

You should only quit a job when you have a firm offer from another company .

Employers prefer to hire people working other places over the unemployed ( they suspect the unemployed are less disciplined , less skilled etc etc )

Do you already have a job offer elsewhere ?
