Wondering if you could use small amounts of normal fertilizer for aquatic plants instead of those overpriced little bottles you can buy at pet stores. Why or why not?

If this is about a fresh-water aquarium, the plants will do just fine on the fish droppings. I wouldn't fool with any fertilizers, especially those for land plants. You could end up poisoning the fish with excess nitrates.
