2 Peter 2:3-5
"First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, 'Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.' But they deliberately deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water."
2 Peter 2:8-9
"But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
First part is prophecy being fulfilled by a good deal of people every day. Considering this writing by Peter was almost 2000 years ago, he knew by God that in the last days, people would be this way. What other way could he know that if God had not shown him? He prophesised what God wanted, and it being written in the Bible just makes a point for the Bible.
2nd part is a coming fulfillment of prophesy, that the Lord will return on HIS timing, no one elses. :)
Enjoy the scripture, there's plenty more in the Bible!

people who first read it during 1900 years ++ ago interpret it that way.
as years pass , people interpret it to be 1800 years ago ... then 1700 years ago .. and now they interpret it to be soon due to iraq war.
after we all pass away , new generation will start to interpret it in their own life time and yada yada.
btw , it's damn easy to convert an atheist , just show us Jesus existence and then we witnessing the miracles .
one very smart thing is that the bible didnt state the exact date , thus it has an infinity amount of time for it to be fufilled
they just don't freaking accept the facts.

I don't think there is evidence too support he was not made up but at the same time who decided what he did and said would determine ones answer to this question. basically I think he is depeicted as saying he would be with us till the end of the age the word used was eon which is losely translated as the world . it meant the time span of the pisces age which is to end around 2160AD.

Haha.
You might want to post the verse that said "before this generation passes."
Remember, Christians don't read the bible; that is what their pastors are for.

He didn't say that. I don't even know who started that "the end is coming and Jesus will come back!" stuff...
... But Jesus was the First Hippie... (making him the first Beatle ;-P)

He'll return when it's time. The prophecies weren't almost all fulfilled then. Now they all almost are, so He'll return soon.
