Why can't people come to terms with the fact that Jr does not want to drive a #3 car? He said his self, that that's his daddy's number. He wants to be his own man. And more power to him.

Jr. will never race the number 3, plus RCR doesn't own the number 3. NASCAR has made very clear (at least I thought so) that they own the numbers and they decide what happens to them. So even if RCR would give up the number 3 (no it's not retired either) NASCAR would step in.

No, he doesn't want to drive the #3, that was his daddy's, Dale Jr needs his own identity.....I think RCR should just retire it.....RIP Dale Sr, you were the greatest... Dale Jr can become great also with his own idenity to bad it can't be the #8, but what ever his number is, it will be his own...

Not at this time. Personally, I think Jr. needs to step out from under his father's shadow. Let's face it, that's what most of his fan base is built on. Jr. is a decent driver but certainly not one of the top 5, in my opinion.
Jr. should NEVER get into the # 3 until he is ready to retire.

From that Wikipedia source:

It is generally believed that current NASCAR owners have agreed never to use the #3 in NEXTEL Cup competition again, although this is not official NASCAR policy. Only the International Race of Champions has actually retired the #3, which they did in a rule change effective in 2004. Anyone wishing to use the #3 again has to use #03 instead.

He also seemed to squelch another persistent rumor — that he was headed to Richard Childress Racing to drive the #3 Chevrolet made famous by his late father. "'I'd like to do it for a year or two at the end of my career, when I'm 50 or 55," he said.(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(5-9-2007)

Heavens NO. Why in the world would you think that? If DEI would not give up just a popular number 8, RCR will never give up the great number 3. One of the best drivers and his best friends number. I wish you could see my head shaking in disbelief of this question even being asked.
Amazing

Jr. has said repeatedly since Dale's death that he does NOT want to run the 3.

Nope. No. Never. Nah.
#3 is a retired number, besides that no one can fulfill that number 3, not even Dale Jr and im a huge Dale Jr fan. I wish but, it just wont happen.

I f he wants to drive the 3 he can. The number isn't retires, NASCAR doesn't retire numbers, and since the 3 hasn't been run in 6 years, it is an open number. No one runs the number out of respect for SR.

He is doing his best to get out of Daddy's shadow. Putting that aside I don't think there is any NASCAR fan out there that wants to see the #3 on the racetrack again. Senior is a legend, I say retire the 3.
