I have two DUIs one in Feb. 2006 and the other Sep. 2001. I have a "withold adjudication" for "conspiring to defraud" but went through Pre-Trial Intervention to not be found guilty of the crime. My NAVY recruiter said that he has seen worse get in but I wanted to get some odds from the regular folks. I scored a 78 on the ASVAB, I am currently attending college and majoring in Computer Programming. The only other things on my record are a couple of speeding tickets and such. The "conspiring to defraud" happened in 2003, so the only recent problem I have had was in early 2006. Other than that it has been atleast 4 years since other problems. I have changed my life and have letters of reccommendation from a Ret. Navy Officer, a Ret. Air Force Sgt., and my employers. Has anyone heard of someone joining with 2 DUIs? I know that the military looks at it as "he didn't learn from his first one" and that was true. I admit. But there is NO WAY that it will happen again. I want to drive again!

Yes, well, when I joined in 2005 I had 3 arrests, none were felonies. I had to get a waiver signed by the Recruiting Division Commander and he just lectured me before signing the waiver. The Army and the Marines are the easiest to get a waiver for arrests. This was almost 3 years ago and it was still waivable. My arrests were DWI, Criminal Posession of Marijuana, and Assault in the 3rd. The assault I think was dropped because of self-defense (which it was), but, I dont think the NAVY is going to give you a hard time during wartime. The AIRFORCE or COAST GUARD may get you a waiver, but more than likely they will tell you to go fly a kite. There are people in all of the armed forces with much worst records than you. Also, all those letters of reccomendations will work! I too had to get some from my high school and college saying I was a good person fit for military duty. Really think about if this is what you want to do with your life because you don't want to end up regretting getting that waiver if you know what I mean. And then it will be too late to say NO I AM BAD, I DRINK AND DRIVE LET ME GET DISCHARGED!!!! So think it through, if youre willing to work, the military will work with you. Plus your recruiter probably wants you in so bad he will almost act as your lawyer to get you to damn basic training!!!

I have not..but I know some guys in the same situation. They can get waivers for anything nowadays since they need people.

DuIs won't hurt you getting into the navy but your choices of jobs will be limited...because some jobs require top security clearances and if you have any kind of criminal record you will be denied.

SO it depends what you want to do....if you want a ts clearance I'm sorry chances are good you won't get it. But if you don't need it you won't get trouble.

I am also in the process of enlisting and the master chief had a colourful history with the law too and he's in...you should be fine to get in the navy but some positions will be denied to you

Good luck to you

uphill battle. Just because you were not found guilty of some of the charges does not mean the Navy will consider you not guilty. and the recent DUI is NOT a good thing.

Navy is less willing to grant waivers, so unless everything else about your packet is stellar, be prepared to be denied the waiver.

I joined the navy with one DUI, no problems. But the navy has cut back on alot of personel. If the recruiter says they can get you in and you really want to join, why not sign the paperwork? If you have more questions you can email me at tim_house2003@yahoo.com

My husband is in the NAVY. I read this to him. He said that they will not let you in with 2 DUI's. They will see all of your recored and say no. Im sorry. My cousin tried to get into the ARMY with 2 DUIs and they still would not let him in either. Good luck

If all fails, try the Army; they'll probably take you without blinking. Best of luck to you.
